I have never had to wear a suit to work but from next week I will have wear suit, open collar. Ive only got one decent suit and ive heard that sitting in it all day makes the trousers shiny and knackers them.

I dont really want my £260 Ten Baker suit getting ruined. To everyone that wears a suit to work, do you wear your expensive ones or just have cheap (or cheaper) work suits?

I might go and check out the M&S italian range as i have heard they are good for the money or some other suits in the region of £50 - £100

I'm confused. You have a £260 suit, which you never wear, but are worried about it getting ruined? Why does it matter if it gets ruined if you never wear it, otherwise it just sits in your wardrobe, and secondly, surely a suit is designed for work, so it getting 'shiny' is unlikely?

Fail to see the big concern. Like you said, get a cheapo M&S suit. I don't know what your job is, hopefully one where people can't tell the difference between a decent suit and some off-the-rack budget piece.

I got a cheapo from slaters for £80 a couple of years back - I use that for work when necessary. Not great looking and not the perfect fit, but fine for sitting in all day.

Suits will wear if you wear them everyday. Buy a few and then you can a) rotate b) they'll take ages to wear out c) you can hang them in between wearing to keep them relatively crease-free.

Where did I say I never wear it? I said i have never have had to wear it to work

I wear it all the time for things like birthday events, christenings, funerals, races and other general days out where you wear a nice suit.

Its an IT job, reckon ill just try M&S and Burtons

Try charity shops like Shelter. Some good quality suits from there for cheap, cheap prices lol

Make sure you buy a suit that is going to last you a while though. No point in buying one at £50, that you will have to replace in a month or two because the legs are getting wholes in them etc.

Sometimes it is worth paying that bit extra to get the better quality ones.

If you are going to be wearing it every day I'd get a okish one from the high street, think M&S somewhere like that and get two pairs of trousers, the chances are the suit jacket will spend half it's time hanging on a chair or a coat rack so it won't wear anything like as quickly as the trousers.

M&S, job done. I've got a couple of M&S ones for general use, a couple from house of fraser for occassional use, and the odd jacket/pair of trousers for random combos when I'm feeling wiiiiild baby :)

this - get 2 pairs of trousers with your suits.

i'm currently working in an office where it's a bit more casual than previously so I will shortly go for a slacks and shirt/tie combo :D

Cheap suits aren't nice to wear all day though, I have a nice suit that I have worn quite happily lots of times and it has had no damage to it. My Dad wears suits everyday and he has quite a few, all of them are quite pricey but you get what you pay for and they certainly last. He probably buys a new one every 6 months or so and throws out 1 of the old ones.

M&S washable for the win. I have a blue pinstripe from there and it's great.

Burton have good offers from time to time, though I think their £99 suit, shirt, shoes, tie offer has just finished. The suits are pretty low quality, as you'd expect, but for that money you can't complain!

I actually picked up a 3 piece suit in Burton the other day... Cheap as hell, but waistcoats are awesome so it's all good in the hood.
