*** Weekend Football - 14th / 15th ***

Absolutely gutted :(

But well played Ireland. If a handball as blatant as that occurs in the WC itself, it will be talked about for decades. I'm also sick that that clown Domenech is still in a job.

He may have acted instinctively, but he knew he had cheated immediately. I'd hazard a guess that he may regret this for a long time. I'd imagine some of his sponsors will be less than enthralled and the backlash will be pretty big.

Regardless of the occasion, he made a poor judgment and didn't take the opportunity to correct it.

Of course it reminds me of something my old boss used to say.

"don't say sorry, just don't do it"

I just hope that this gets as much coverage as it would if it happened to England. Something needs to be done.

Imagine if Henry was still at Arsenal and he did that to England!

I await with anticipation about how Platini saw it. If he tries to defend it he can go jump off a bridge with a concrete slab tied to his feet.

That's not entirely fair, it's like saying that people should never put in a rash tackle or mouth off at the ref. While it's true, it's pretty tough to make those decisions in a pressure situation.

I have never seen a case where a player has "instinctively" palmed the ball in a direction. Watch the slow motion video. He flaps his hand to direct the ball. That's a conscious decision. Someone who goes in for a rash tackle(excepting for things like Keane-Harland) intend to pull off a good tackle. He knows exactly what he is doing, I don't care if it is out of desperation.

Nicely capped gif here.

To those debating intent versus instinct, look at that gif. That's intentional.

Bad state of affairs that something so important can be decided by someone cheating. Everyone across the globe saw within 5 seconds that the goal shouldn't have been given, but the person that makes the decision isn't given access to the same information the rest of us are. It's a joke.

Hopefully Fifa/Uefa will take some sort of action against Henry. Fair enough France will be at the World Cup, but Henry shouldn't be there. How he had the nerve to shake hands and sit down and talk to Irish players he'd just cheated out of their chance to play in the WC I don't know.

Absolute disgrace that.

First Anelkas dive, then Henrys hand ball ... talk about cheating your way to the finals.

It was bad enough the fact they changed the rules of the play off draw to have seeded teams (I mean, wtf?) but then the likes of Henry and Anelka start their usual games.

I found it quite amusing the commentator saying he was surprised Henry would do something like that? That guy has been cheating for years for crying out loud!

i can't tell whether there is intent or not.

He clearly moves his hand into the path of the ball to stop it from going past him, then opens his hand out to gently push the ball with his fingers back to the right of him, far enough that he can then play it across the face of goal. There are two separate handballs in that gif and both of them are obviously committed on purpose.
