*** Weekend Football - 14th / 15th ***

Apart from Rooney the stand ins for the subs for England did ok lol

(I know Brazil could easily have scored 3 or more, but that penalty is laughable at how it was taken, no question of its validity though)

Brown may well have been guilty for both the goal scored and the pen but I still think he will get into the squad through versatility (and the fact that he isnt really match fit yet)

Anyone know how serious the injury to Carrick is, I cant find any site referring to it?

No one grabbed their chance to shine and as R5L said, a few have even got less of a chance of going to SA after playing last night lol

I really wish Foster was better, this season was his big opportunity for Man Utd and England and personally think he has blown it completely (some have blamed him too much, but the quality and communication just isnt there imo)

I thought the goal itself was more Upson's fault, surely it has to be the centre backs responsibility to cover runs from a striker like that and balls across the box? Nilmar was trying to exploit the gap between Brown and Upson but Upson was the one goal side, short of fouling him Brown was never going to out pace him.

I still think Brown is the best choice there in the games where we aren't favourites.

Upson took his position off of Lescott and Nilmar was blind side of him, it was Brown's responsibility as a covering full back to block or track the run of Nilmar. He didn't though, he switched off and Nilmar just walked in and had a free header.

Regarding the game in general yesterday; I know we had a lots of injuries but it's embarrassing to see the likes of Jenas, SWP, Brown, Lescott and Bridge playing for England :o

To be fair Brown is a much better defender than he has been able to show recently (coming back from injury and not having played more than 3 1st team games in a good long while)

If him and Johnson shared during the WC it wouldnt be that much of a concern imo (although Brown could be taken as a utility defender able to cover bth centre half and FRB positions) as long as they both are able to get fully fit and remain so

Jenas, Lescott and Bridge shouldnt get anywhere near the plane to SA, if they do England really dont stand a chance

AS stated above most players last night where stand ins for the subs that should go to South Africa (so at least one step fully removed from the 1st team) imo

Oh ****'s sake. RvP's injured for a while. Every ****ing time.

That is sounding really nasty indeed - and particularly inocious from the event itself (although it happend immediately)

At the moment its a suspected torn ligament, but they won't do the scans to check till tomorrow.

Arsenal have strikers, but this is why I've been so incensed lately. Fergie will rest Rooney, Chelsea rest Drogba, Torres gets rested, RVP, yet again after the longest run of games he's had, against a crap team started and played the full 90mins. Wenger made a point of saying he won't rotate the centrebacks, which is all well and good, till like last year Gallas got injured due to overtraining/no rest, and our season fell apart completely, because he was injured and because the replacements with little rotation, had little form/practice/match fitness.

LIkewise, tbh, Bendtner was only just back from injury, played a long Cup game for just getting back and was started in the next game, picked up an instant groin injury. We change players around after injuries constantly, but we never seem to rotate players to prevent injuries.

Is Vela alive at the moment? Despite playing superbly when he does play, he then gets dropped for 10 games, Eduardo's had no time in his best position. I can't remember what Theo's injury situation is again.

I would assume Eduardo will take up position as the main striker for now, with Arshavin capable of playing there aswell.

He got injured in a rough tackle, how the hell is that Wenger's fault? God your pathetic at times

Thankfully our entire side was injured before the international break so they couldn't get injured :o

Think they'll both be back soon though.

As for Arsenal, with RvP realistically being out until next year it's time for Eduardo to show if he can lead the line.

Argh I thought Theo was training all the international break and would be ready for afterwards. The last place I thought Arsene would be short is up front, this Arsenal team are spectacularly good at getting injured

Agreed, it really is time for one of our other forwards to step up. I think Rosicky should be relieved of his cotton wool as well.

I'm not sure what has happened to Eduardo, whether he's just gotten a bit lazy recently or if the debacle he went through a while back has shot his confidence.

A bit of good news for Arsenal fans is how well Ramsey played when we beat Scotland 3-0. Utterly brilliant performance and ran the game for Wales.

I was very impressed by him and Wales.

Scotland aren't good at football, have a couple of good players but Scottish football is ****.

The manager will probably get sacked, but I do feel sorry for him.

There was very little evidence to support the hype around Eduardo. He played a few good games for Arsenal, scored 2 or 3 goals and then had his leg broken. During this peroid when he was sidelined he went from a good player with potenial, to be been a worldclass goal machine ala Messi.

Not really, he showed time and again that he has the ability to put the ball in the net from most positions, he was clinical and always scored the goals you'd expect him to, that's a very rare quality nowadays. Give him a few months and I hope he'll be scoring again. Even this season he's often in the right place at the right time and he barely plays, he's a natural striker with great instinct, granted he isn't the best all rounder in the world though, but he certainly has quality. It's definitely too early to write him off already, has he even had any sort of run of games? How can he be nearly fully fit yet :/
