*** Weekend Football - 14th / 15th ***

LOL Lucio again getting some space and almost scoring in the process...good thing that post was there:p

Brazil are just simply sublime with their passing game...the quick one-two passes along with their counter attacking...giving England some headaches..

hudd shoulda started instead of jenas. i rate him far higher. he doesnt always play great but he has vision and a great ability to pick a pass. if he could become consistant he'd be a good player.

i dont see where capello was going with this team choice, it has no dynamic.

Game over 1-0 to Brazil...England just totally out-classed by Brazil and Brazil werent even playing Robinho...imagine if he was in there i think the scoreline would have been a lot worse.

Valiant effort by england though...

He isn't mobile enough to start against the likes of Brazil.

Why is anyone surprised, Capello has been fired more than once from a league winning side because the football he plays is so incredibly dull and boring. You can not win a cup by scraping boring 1-0 wins and losing the odd game, it just doesn't work like that. You need to be a positive attacking team, basically score more than you concede.

Brazil weren't good tonight, they put in barely any effort, no one really tried and I can understand in silly weather for an unimportant game. Except that England had a lot of players desparate to make an impression, Brazil didn't. Kaka, was crap, not sure about the amazing one touch passing, most of their attacks weren't that great. Kaka's final pass was over/under hit every single time turning a good move into a brain fart.

Fabiano's, for not a great big guy, ability to win basically every long ball up to him, hold of 2 or 3 defenders and play a pass around or turn them and run towards goal was worrying to say the least, our defence couldn't contain him at all. WE should have lost by a lot more, if the game meant anything, or any Brazil players were playing for a world cup place I'm should we've have been demolished.

SWP shouldn't be a footballer, did nothing, the constant harping about Milner, when he just held the ball to long and is limited to having an ok cross on his right foot, except he only has one type of cross which is predictable as hell, cuts in, crosses, can see it coming. He had one good game setting up one goal, with that same cross, he did nothing else in that game, and has been crap in every game since. Theo had a SINGLE good game on the right wing for England, is now hailed as some kind of genius, despite being crap there, Lennon's also poor as hell. Also not quite sure why in the past 3 years, everyone's suddenly come to the conclusion you can't be good at football if you're over 30. Beckham is better than Milner, THeo, Lennon by miles, and miles, and miles and miles.

Yet again Young doesn't get a real chance, couple appearances in massively changed teams, this game 4 whole minutes from time he came on, still won more tackles than most of the team in that time.

Rooney was poor, his passing was poor, really everything he did was poor, he can not do throughballs. He couldn't find Bent to save his life, and Bent had no service at all, though the one long ball to him he knocked on perfectly for Rooney.

I've never, ever seen a team knock so many long ball passes to someone as short and useless as SWP. THe first half was full of long ball passes from everyone to SWP, who didn't win a single one of them, not surprisingly.

England were just out classed, in almost every part of the pitch.

I thought other then the foul (of which he'd have seen red had it not being a friendly) Foster was quite good.

Wright Phillips annoys me, he's got pace but no ability with a football. He pretty much kicks the ball past a defender and either runs past them to get it, or runs in to them.

I'd much rather seen Lennon play on that side then Wright Phillips.

England weren't at full strength but showed nothing, zero in the way of a half decent performance, out classed by a Basil squad that basically weren't too bothered and spent most of the game in first gear, only stepping up a few times, when they did England really struggled.

You're being too harsh there.

The team has pace, that was clear tonight, but little quality and no idea what do with it when (or should I say if) they beat people. Barry played well as did Milner they might not be overly positive players but they where effective tonight.I agree to a certain extent that Beckham is a better player than certain squad members, but he is slow. If England are going to beat teams they need to call on the only attribute they have, and that's masses of pace, a team with A Cole, Agbonlahore, Young, etc.. will scare teams, it'd scare the **** out of Brazil. We have little flare, and most of that comes from Rooney.

I agree, I didn't think Milner / Barry did much wrong today. England were just out classed.

Bent, got no service. Rooney looked his normal self, ie when he gets the ball he looks like doing something, something that can't be said for any of the other England players bar maybe Milner.

Yet Rooney showed no flare at all tonight, he showed a complete inability to link up with Bent, who to be fair made good runs, just never got passes from anyone.

As for pace, we won't be playing Gabby and Young, Cole and who else. Pace for England will be Rooney whose not that fast, Ashley cole, and SWP, SWP pace is useless as he prefers to pass back safely, or run down the wing and fall over or blast a cross behind.

England aren't relying on pace to win games, because our first team has Lampard, Barry, Heskey, Rooney and quite possibly Beckham. That pace won't scare the hell out of anyone to be honest.

THen frankly we're talking about winning a world cup, Brazil's fullbacks have plenty of pace to burn and their wingers, as do most top teams who have a chance of winning. This isn't England playing Belgium or San Marino, pace doesn't scare the pants off the worlds best, even less so when theres zero end product on the end of it.

Beckham will be wasted without a good right back though, he was great with Neville as the partnership worked the wing superbly, both with a great cross and able to get the other into space to make the cross.

Barry might not have done much wrong, but he didn't do anything right either, of him and Jenas he was supposed to be the defensive one, but they ran through our midfield like he wasn't there, often because he wasn't. I don't blame him, he's not close to a defensive midfielder, he's no good at it and everytime we rely on him to do that our midfield dissappears. Milner repeatedly decide he could "do" maicon, and others and held onto the ball when he shouldn't have, his crossing was easily dealt with and just didn't do much of anything. This is a game England players wanting a starting place should have been playing their very best, against a Brazil side that barely tried, and thats the key thing, they really weren't in anything but second gear tonight, Milner/Barry/Rooney looked completely average. If they weren't good enough tonight, against a team known for barely getting out of 2nd gear till the quarter finals, they certainly won't be good enough in a world cup final.

I thought Milner did fine. Barry suffers from the jack of all trades, master of none problem. Bent was pointless really, you can argue that he got no service but he made no attempt to go and find the ball. In a game like that you can't have a striker just sitting up top waiting for the ball to come to him. Luis Fabiano, Rooney and Nilmar all moved around trying to get in the game, Bent didn't.
