Weekend Football; 20-22nd December - *SPOiLERS*

In an ideal world maybe he shouldn't be starting but unless you can say for certain that if we signed....we'd be x amount of points clear then his goals and perfomances have contributed hugely to us being top of the league and even if you could that's not to say that he hasn't been one our best performers this season, as he has.

With Torres playing Kuyt would have gone unnoticed. He has been one of our best performers this season whilst not playing great, which tells you a lot about us and the strength of others in the league.

Still, I'd be willing to bet we'd be better off with a genuine RW who is quick and consistent.

Very easy thing to say. Other than the 2nd half vs Everton (where imo Kuyt was excellent) and the City (where Kuyt scored the winner) games, Torres' form was hardly amazing.

As for the genuine RW who is quick and consistent, who is this guy? I can't think of too many that we could sign who fits that criteria.

Well you think of a player you'd rather have in that position than Kuyt, not hard is it?

Ribery is a quick one that springs to mind, far more productive than Kuyt.

Based on his form towards the end of last season and start of this season then it is quite hard. Despite his clear weaknesses, there's not many wingers who score as many as he has in that time or have got as many assists either.

Ribery's a decent player but he'd cost a fortune, didn't Baryern pay the best part of £20m on him? They're hardly to let him go without making themselves a big profit.

But they do exist...

There are many others I just can't be bothered to search :p

To be fair though, it's not Kuyt's fault he's being told to play there, Rafa is obviously happy with him there or maybe just using him as a stop gap (Hopefully).

There are a few top wingers around but none are realistic targets imo. Like i said above, ideally we'd have somebody else but he does a decent job. Depending on how Keane finishes the season, we may be in a position to look for a rw next summer but if Keane's form doesn't pick up then a second top striker should be our priority next summer (possibly a lb too although Insua looks like the answer there).

If we could find another Riera that would be fantastic. I don't understand why Rafa doesn't play Babel there more often, didn't we play like that against PSV and end up ripping them apart? He is naturally right footed too.

What was Adebayor sent off for ?? The raised leg or the elbow ?

The raised leg I believe.

Babel's poor form may have something to do with it. Other than coming off the bench vs Utd and Chelsea and the PSV game he's been a real let down this season. Maybe he needs a run in the side but with other players (Riera in particular) playing well he's not going to get it, he has to take the chances he gets and he hasn't been.

Rafa doesn't like playing him on the right either. He's not a winger who likes to stay out wide, he prefers cutting infield and linking up so by starting on the right he'll be coming in on his left foot which isn't much better than Riise's right.

Mark Hughes has just received his christmas present from the board.

Merry Christmas Sparky. :D

Would've been nice if Sammy had full control over the team today. Might've made the substitutions a bit quicker and changed the outcome of the game. Rafa ALWAYS leaves it far too late to make changes.

In general i agree but not today. Up untill just after the red card, when Babel did come on, there was no reason to make a change as we were dominating the game. I don't think the time of the other 2 subs made too much difference as i don't think either were really going to improve our play and were brought on more as fresh legs. Like i said earlier, the mistake imo with our subs today was to take of Riera rather than Lucas.

Completely forgot Babel came on today. I've criticised Rafa in the past for not giving him enough time on the pitch but he needs to do far more than he did today.

Why does that matter? As i mentioned earlier, regardless of his intentions the challenge was potential a dangerous one and more than worthy of a booking. Everybody was up in arms at Arca not getting sent off yesterday and that's all that he was doing too. Had Adebayor made any serious contact with Arbeloa then i doubt too many people would have had any complaints with him getting a straight red.

Personally after seeing the Arca replay on MOTD2 just now, that was far worse than the Ade one - initially I thought Ade had elbowed for the 2nd yellow, but as the ref denied this it was a bit innocious (pretty stupid too as he could have easily directly played the ball rather than risking something like he did with a "protective" move and blocking the Liverpool player)

Arca should have been red carded, no where near the ball and could have broken the......fulham? players leg quite easily
