Weekend Football **SPOILERS** 4-5 April

He's free to make up his own mind, just because he grew up near Lazio football club, it doesn't mean they own him, he has as much right to play for anybody as he likes. I don't see the fuss.

while it may not have been much in lira or pounds - they still nurtured the player from a young age, so could rightfully suggest he is an assett to the company /club (even if he is on £50 /week or whatever as a 15 year old)

I do understand that - and would be mightily *****off if they did it to Utd

Its also years after the event - if they where legally able to do anything they would have done it ages ago

It would make European football more exciting though if every decent youngster didn't play for Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, Barca or Real.

Maybe, but he shouldn't suffer playing for a lesser club due to where he was born, he couldn't help that. He only has one career, he needs to make the very most of it. This only happen occasionally to the exceptionally talented players who need to be amongst other players of the same standard to properly progress, why stay with Lazio and seriously hinder his progression just to be nice?

These clubs know how to handle these talents best though, who knows how they'd turn out if it wasn't for training with top pro's and being pushed to their limits? They might not turn out anywhere near their top potential. At the end of the day he'd leave anyway, Lazio just wanted money out of him to be fair

Then rather than spend stupid money on some bloke who's past it, they should develop their scouting network.

Lazio have even admitted there's nothing that can be done due to the domestic rules in place.

I remember when Wenger got Flamini for compensation and Anelka for £0.5m.

Aye this.

Also people seem to forget that by taking on a youngster, the new club still has a lot of work to do with him. It's not quite just about poaching a player. And a lot of kids who are from home just aren't good enough in terms of the people in front of them. For example David Bentley and Jermaine Pennant.

Who are you talking about? Newcastle?

Just because Lazio can't do anything about it doesn't mean things shouldn't be changed.

Just because a team still has to develop the player isn't an argument for poaching, the other team is deprived of the player regardless.

I sometimes wonder if Arsenal play in an alternate league where the teams we play are always in a bad spell of form and are generally rubbish while the other PL teams have it a lot harder.

The fact of the matter is like any team in the PL, you have to beat whats put in front of you and thats all that matters. We've been on a long unbeaten run now but more crucially are also playing some great attacking football. Even during that period where we were drawing a lot, we were dominating the games and it was only inspired goalkeeping and poor finishing that caused the problem.

While we may get nothing from the 3 games against the other top 4, I think that fans from those teams would rather be playing Villa than us at the moment.

O'Neill has done brilliantly at Villa, but I haven't felt all season that they are a top 4 team. I still believe, especially with the injured players coming back, that anything outside the top 4 would be an underachievement for Arsenal. We'll see at the end of the season though. Its about the 38 games afterall and not the first half of the season.

See, you're putting a negative spin on what I said. I simply said on the form, we've played easy games, it WILL be a different story against better teams but that doesn't mean we can't win, I didn't say we WOULD lose. I'm simply sayings its not as hopeless as Villa fans seem to think at this second . remember most people are now sure Arsenal have 4th and Villa have nothing, the pressures on us, and the pressures off them. As I also said, we've got potentially what, 8/10 more games than them in the run in due to cup and Europe, certainly 3 more games and in all likely hood we're looking at 5 mores games at a minimum. Thats 7 games for Villa, and 12 for us, thats a BIG difference.

I also didn't claim anything about the form of the teams we've played, City have one a single game all year away from home, that was before they were bought out, in August, we got spanked by them at their place, we spanked them. The other teams were all bottom 5 teams non withstanding form. We played some great football against them, and we lost some goals. All of those games we didn't play Adebayor, or Fabregas, before those games we drew 4 games on the trot(2 with ADebayor) and we had drawn 8 games and won 5 games in our little run before we played literally the worst teams in the league.

Thats not to say we can't beat Man U, Chelsea and Pool, but we draw all three and villa win their equivilent games and we're behind them again. We lose playes in the 5-10 extra games and that might hurt us hugely.

Its just not cut and dry and sewn up.

Oh i'm also worried that they looked a different team with the hapless useless heskey upfront, and the second he's out of the team they can suddenly attack again. They had one win with Heskey I believe, and have been turd since then, the first game he's out and offensively they were far better than the past 5 games and held the ball so much better in Man U's half.

May I also ask, whose back exactly, we had Theo, ADe and Fabregas early season when we were at our worst. The other players to come back, Eduardo, Rosicky, whose going to be dropped for them to play, you can't blame our season on injuries as we were crap with really only Eduardo and Rosicky out long term, of which under Wenger you can't see either starting games anyway. If I'm wrong, tell me how, who is Eddie going to play instead of, who would you drop for Rosicky?

SAF will retire as soon as Utd have more league titles than Liverpool - and hopefully won another CL

If Liverpool snatch it this year he'd have to stay for a minimum of 3 more seasons to do that even then he'd have to win all 3 on the trot.
If Liverpool win it this year I don't think he'll worry about that stat when considering his future.

To be fair, you have been saying pretty much the same about the teams we have beaten for most of the season. Earlier in the season you were saying similar things. We were only beating them because they were in the bottom half or not as good as last season etc etc. All I'm saying is that its no different for any of the other teams competing for a top 4 place.

Injuries mean a lot more than just how we were playing when these players were fit or whether or not they would be picked. And anyway unless you are a prophet there is no reason to think that our change in form wouldn't have happened had Ade and Fab remained fit.

The biggest problem is that it puts more pressure on the players who are fit as they cannot be rotated and don't get a rest. I'm sure had Ade, Fab, Walcott, Diaby and Edu remained fit then we would be better off now than we are. Maybe not so much in points but we would have some fresher players to rotate in and out. Last night was the first time I can remember for a long time where a team looked stronger than us in the last 10-15mins fitness wise.
