Weekend Football **SPOILERS** 4-5 April

I have to confess, I really didnt realise that we Liverpool fans were as hated as it appears on this forum.

I dont know if that is indicative of the types of Liverpool fans here, or the types of other clubs fans here, or the nation as a whole. So much Liverpool hatred, I actually do find it surprising.

I would have thought for the interests of a continually competitive and exciting premier league people would generally want someone other than United to win it. Just to keep the league fresh, I mean we dont want a Celtic/Rangers situation in the EPL surely?

Ownership and the money that the EPL gets will deffo mean that we won't get a situation like the SPL.

Arsenal are a signing or two away from really competing up there, and don't forget that we've been utterly ravaged by injuries this season. I don't think we've actually put out (at the beginning what was on paper) our entire first eleven this season. Chelsea probably need to get rid of a lot of deadwood.

Don't forget you also have forumitis here to an extent lol!

As for a few of the neutrals wanting Utd to win the league; that's mainly supporters of sides we've knocked out the CL still whining.

I can't speak for Chelsea fans, but as an Arsenal fan I think it's more the nature of events in results recently between us and my experience of their fans afterwards, that has somewhat lessened my support for them.

It's in my opinion something worsening recently; years ago there was almost no animosity between the sides and I remember being just as enthusiastic as the 'Pool fans I was out with when they played in Istanbul. By the time they played Milan again, I wasn't supporting them, and that was before last season. :)

Completely agree, Liverpool fans on here seem good (as with most of the posters on here) but I just get more crap from Liverpool fans irl than I do from any other team's supporters.

Yeah as a neutral I'm in the same boat. It's purely down to the people I know and how ****ing unbearable they will be.

You get good ones and bad ones like with any, but sheesh being in the city and living with some of them..again, it's due to some reactions after matches recently.

The thing that has always struck me is that like any fan they don't mind critising their own club, but in my experience seem to react a lot worse to opposition fans doing the same. *shrugs*

(Sorry about lots of text).

Where as with Manu fans everyone has become so used to it they don't even brag and celebrate it.

Anyway I fancy Wigan to go down next year ;)

****

I want Liverpool to win it, they have played some brilliant football and its crap when a team wins everything.

Man United are not going to win "5 trophies" on this form.

I want Man U to win it as when they are playing well they are good to watch, Rooney as much as I think he's used in the incorrect way can be fantastic to watch on his really good days and Ronaldo is simply a great footballer, though I don't think they played the same passing/scoring football as maybe 4-5 years ago, the premiership has changed pretty dramatically, its more defensive on the whole with teams going 4-5-1 more often and playing for draws.

Liverpool just play crap football, they are the one top 8(ish) team I don't make an effort to watch all the games for. AT least Everton often play really well or so badly that the games still good to watch, Liverpool, maybe best shown with their 6 man defence team, just don't even try to play exciting footie, also for me the worst and most frequent cheats. I can understand a West Brom striker diving to get a penalty, being top of the league and still cheating that much is a joke. All teams do it, but Torres/Gerrard for me are such bad cheats I would not like to see them win the league until they cut it out.

Arsenal injuries are also massively overplayed. To many fans regard ADe as our best striker and he's been fit the majority of the year, Eduardo's been injured, but in most fans minds he wouldn't start ahead of Ade or RVP, so his injury isn't like ANelka, Torres or Yakubu being injured, we've had plentiful cover and our "starters" fit almost all year. LIkewise Rosicky isn't sure of a start, Nasri is a certain starter now, Theo isn't a certain starter. Our only offical injury of someone who pre injury started every single game is Fabregas, and he's been a huge loss, however he was involved in the majority of our utterly woeful early season. Injurys have cost us some rotation options, but other than Fabregas I don't think any of the others would have been players Wenger would actually be starting in games anyway. Many clubs have had worse injuries to actual first team starters, Everton(if its classed as a striker its injured), Villa(top scorer Carew, Bouma, Laursen), Man U(Hargreaves, Ferdy, Vidic, Ronaldo, Neville, Anderson), Chelsea(Essien, Drogba, Cole, Carvalho), even Pool(Gerrard/Torres) tbh.

O'Neil and Barry have made it clear that his future rests firmly on you getting 4th, which i still think you've got a chance of. I know it's going to be difficult but Arsenal still have to play us and Utd away and Chelsea at home.

Anyway, after the season Alonso has had we may not be in for him this summer. However with Gerrard now firmly being a '2nd striker', there could still be room for another cm.

Arsenal have had their easy run, City away from home are barely a team and we've basically played people all trying equally hard to get relegated in our previous 4/5 game winning run. Harder opposition will be a different matter aswell as the fact we have cup and European games to fit in around the league, more chances for injury, tiredness, screwups, etc. Villa have had a run of very tough games and thats about to switch around with Arsenal plus not having cup/euro to worry about they are in a much stronger position with only a 6 point gap nothings remotely certain.

But just watching the game yesterday its again very obvious that Barry is being deployed as a offensive midfielder, not defensive, setting up the Carew goal with a simply fantastic cross, getting into the box at every chance. He's not a DM anymore and hasn't been for two years. PEtrov is the one out of the two who stays back, gets forward less, rarely gets in the box, O'neill has been playing them that way all year. Barry's playing closer to the Gerrard role than the Macherano, so I wonder how he'll fit into that squad. Though deploying him on the wing is clearly an option and BEnitez's love of two central midfielders it won't matter if Barry isn't "that" defensive.

But Barry seems like an overly expensive option thats less and less defensive by the game at a team where he's a big fish and fairly undropable, Barry would be a tit to leave and frankly Benitez would be a tit to buy him this year.

United defenders are getting so many fouls they don't deserve from being merely out-powered, Riley is really protecting them for some reason :/

Aye, I've seen at least two cases where Villa forwards have been unfairly penalised.

Come on UTD.
*sigh* Mike Riley strikes again.... the sooner this buffoon is got rid of, the better.

We have been playing good recently but had no time to post i was telling my mate before the united game that we are going to win at old Trafford and we did i was the happiest person in the world i loved it. I think Rafa knows his best 11 now and Torres is back so that another plus i can’t wait for the Chelsea game i think if Alonso plays well then i think we will win the game. Another thing is that i think Alonso has been are best play this season we don’t need no Barry he is not even half as good as Alonso.

My late old mum supported Man Utd, and I know I should really want them to win, and I usually do, but they win bloody everything. Seriously, it must actually be quite boring being Alex Ferguson now. Och, fancy that, I've won another Premiership title. Oh laddy look, I was oot walkin' dog an' I tripped over this here League Cup. I got this World Club Cup in a boot sale too, d'ya want it?

Share the wealth, Alex, for god's sake.

I bloody hate both, can't no one win the title this year?

But in honesty, I would prefer United to win it purely down to the fact that at this moment in time I dislike Liverpool more and I also believe they play better football.

SAF will retire as soon as Utd have more league titles than Liverpool - and hopefully won another CL

I sometimes wonder if Arsenal play in an alternate league where the teams we play are always in a bad spell of form and are generally rubbish while the other PL teams have it a lot harder.

The fact of the matter is like any team in the PL, you have to beat whats put in front of you and thats all that matters. We've been on a long unbeaten run now but more crucially are also playing some great attacking football. Even during that period where we were drawing a lot, we were dominating the games and it was only inspired goalkeeping and poor finishing that caused the problem.

While we may get nothing from the 3 games against the other top 4, I think that fans from those teams would rather be playing Villa than us at the moment.

O'Neill has done brilliantly at Villa, but I haven't felt all season that they are a top 4 team. I still believe, especially with the injured players coming back, that anything outside the top 4 would be an underachievement for Arsenal. We'll see at the end of the season though. Its about the 38 games afterall and not the first half of the season.

Gotta love the way Lazio are claiming foul play, they didn't say anything when he was playing for the reserves.

They probably weren't asked about it before.

If they had said something earlier the press would've just ignored it. Lazio complain about 16 year old in Man U Reserves isn't exactly going to sell thousands of papers.
