Weekend Football *Spoilers* inc Carling Cup Final 28/2 - 1/3

So glad Liverpool dodged the Bentley bullet.

Bentley has gone from rising England star to average player at an average team with no chance of an England place ;)

Manchester United looked comfortable for the most part, Spurs had some really good attacks going. Game fizzled out by 80 minutes.

i would go as far as to say he is a **** player

he has been **** for spurs but he came into a struggling team playing a system that's probably not suited to him

hes defiantly got ability tho

True, he's got a bit of ability (not a lot) but unfortunately not as much as he thinks he has. He's got a terrible attitude both on and off the pitch.

Kinda annoyed they brought back the old fashioned cup lifting process, walking all the way up those stairs, centre pitch cup lifting is better.

A lot of the game was lost in midfield and a poor pitch made sure this wasn't a classic. Really glad we won it today. Spurs had some very good spells and Ben Foster played his part. He has to be the natural succesor to EVS rather than PIG.

Of course on the list of priorities it's not at forefront at the start of the season. That said I have always been a firm believer that games like this and cup runs helps breed confidence. Hopefully it sets up quite nicely for a good finish to the season.

Its a bit stupid that cup lifting, no atmosphere or anything, and its all a mess :(

the old way, all in the middle of the pitch, fireworks and stuff, that was the way to do it, unless they make it a bit more shineeeeey! when they make that long walk, it will always be poo :(

Glad we won, now get back to concentrating on important things :)

edited for truth :D

pretty even match

If it was last season Tevez would have won the match several times (even if Ronaldo wasnt on the pitch lol) - just shows he has lost a lot in the intervening 6- 9 months (partly him and partly the club)

no real talking point apart from the penalty - as stated Ronny's credebility went against him, pity but there you go

As soon as I knew Rooney was out due to virus and Berba was not playing I thought it would be that kind of game

Giggs and Anderson and Nani all score again in crucial penalty shoot out (well I guess all penalty shoot-outs are crucial lol) - who cares if Anderson doesnt score "officially" as long as he scores his penalties like that hahaha

Either keeper wasnt really tested until the penalties, and no team really had a clear cut chance

Spurs had some very good spells and Ben Foster played his part. He has to be the natural succesor to EVS rather than PIG.

That was actually in question? :)

Tevez was really REALLY poor today, wouldn't mind if we spent 25m elsewhere in the summer to be honest. Thought Anderson and Giggs were quality when they came on, although when Giggs came on Anderson stopped going forward as much which was a shame. Ferdinand had a really good game today, best in a while, and Evans yet again was quality. Scholes was majestic.

Two down, three to go :)

Totally agree - I just dont know who (as its unlikely to be Benzema) - we do need more experienced striking options though without doubt

I agree although with Evans playing out of position it wasnt that surprising having Anderson holding back a little more

The whole of the defence did pretty well - OShea was ok but nothing really notable, I actually think Evans did better in his spell than OShea starting

Some of the passing Scholes did completely blew my mind (yeah he has done it before a lot, but its still very impressive)

Agreed, Tevez was rubbish!

One thing that has always been questionable about Tevez is his first touch. He plays a lot of the game with his back to goal and any pacey ball knocked into him seems to cannon 1metre in front, the same woeful touch also hit Wellbeck today but I can forgive him as he is 18 and probably was extremely nervous.

Berbatov may not be to everyones taste but his first touch is class and it allows us to hold the ball up much more effectivel than with Tevez up there alone. Tevez has backs of energy and potential but I just can't see SAF paying £20 Million for him.

I'm ashamed to say it (because he is an arragont idiot) but i would love to see robin van persie at United

I said at the time tevez was a brilliant deal. Basically a loan player with a decent option to buy. If it didn't work out you could let some other sap pay his 'handlers' 20 million.

He will be a decent addition to the squad for £12 million or so, other than that you may as well let someone else pay.

It wasn't as straight forward as that though dannyjo. They've had to pay £10m to take him on loan. They could have signed him straight away for ~£25m and im sure they'd be able to get ~£20m back for him now, which would have worked out cheaper.
