Weekend Football *Spoilers* inc Carling Cup Final 28/2 - 1/3

There is no need to shoot down O'Shea, he is what he is, a player who does a job but he's never going to set the world alight.

I did vent my frustration about Welbeck during the match and stated he needed to be taken off ASAP. As others have said though, he's young and I havn't written him off yet.

Nani wasn't great yesterday. His shooting was terrible and on a few occasions it was as if he was simply passing the ball to the keeper. However, it's clear he has it in him to become a good player he just needs to pull his finger out. I just don't see much in Gibson, poor mans Carrick.

I was wondering when he'd come out with that. I think considering the injuries United have had this season he has absolutely nothing to complain about.

What a clown he is.

Did either of you actually watch the press conference or just read the headline?

A reporter asked him, had Torres been fit all season could have things been different and all he said was 'it could be'. He even went on to say that there's nothing we can do and that every team has injuries.

Oh btw Nokkon. I don't mean to keep digging at you personally but I noticed you don't have your location under your avatar anymore. Surely this isn't to do with the whole glory hunting thing is it lol.

I don't? Weird, I've not changed anything. Still in Middlesbrough :p.

Carlos Tevez was awful, not quite Welbeck awful. I thought he had a poor game. Took his penalty well, but what do you expect from the spot.

Now I don't know about you, but I don't want to pay 25 m for a Striker who is going to play in the middle of the park, Tevez was coming deeper and deeper and being drawn into play because as a team we were not giving him the service he needed.

He came deep because there was no one in the hole anyway, Gibson played way far back and Scholes doesn't have the legs to get further forward anymore, so he had to come and collect, what do you expect, lol.

The only spurs player that gave a half decent performance was Lennon, I thought the other 10 were as bad as United.

I disagree, Modric was superb throughout the 90 minutes and extra time. If Foster hadnt have been so good in the shoot out then he would have probably been MotM.

As for the worst player on the park, step forward Pavlyuchenko! Gibson didnt play that badly, from where I was sat there were a lot worse Utd players on display, Welbeck and Evra to name 2.

As for the penalty. It was a foul, but seeing the replays you can see why it wasnt given, and the yellow was harsh, but again, after the referee had made his decision he had to. Also, I think it wasnt given because he didnt send off O'Shea, when he knew he should have.

All in all I think Spurs did better than most expected, and apart from Ronaldo's shot at the end I think we had the better chances, certainly Foster had to make the more important saves.

I don't even think it was a foul tbh (or a dive for that matter). He was hitting the ground regardless of whether or not the contact was made.

For starters, Gibson was that bad, I laughed at how bad his passing was, I thought to myself, Man U have their own Song.......... then I remembered Song is all but first team for us, Gibson will barely get another game ever :(

Good on Fergie for keeping him on though and I'm fairly sure if they hadn't won he wouldn't of cut only him from the team for the next few games killing his confidence(not that he'll have much anyway). Welbeck was terrible but to a certain degree had very little of the ball, same goes for Tevez, not good but had little to go on. Remember the key for a central midfielder is this, keep the smegging ball. Your wingers and strikers are SUPPOSED to try to get the ball in the net, they will ALWAYS lose more of the ball than other players by the very nature of the game. THe fact that Gibson had plenty of passes to him under little pressure, lots of time to pick out a pass and screwed almost all of them up isn't the same as Welbeck running shoulder to shoulder as a kid, with a full grown tough centre back and losing, its just not remotely the same at all.

As for the dive/foul, anyone got a link to a vid of it, I seem to remember basically King missing it completely stepping on Ronaldos foot and Ronaldo starting to go down from that, his foot comes loose from under Kings but he's already going over, not a dive at all, harsh(due to direction and ball) penalty, but a penalty none the less.

As for looking at a list of Fab, Ronaldo, Messi, Anderson, Benzema and Aguero and claiming that only Fab is a midfielder? I'd dare to suggest that Messi, Ronaldo and Anderson all play midfield, but maybe its just me.

Evra wasn't as bad as made out either, being spurs fans I assume you watched the Blackburn game where Olsen got sent off, sticking a foot out with the hopes of getting the ball against an uber fast player with the delivery of your granny is retarded. It got Olsen sent off, as Evra probably would have been if he'd spent all game catching him. Instead he let him by, Lennon did nothing at all and Evra didn't have any trouble with repeated fouls. He wasn't anywhere near his best, but kicking out at a fast player is just plain stupid, especially one reknowned for his inability to do a damn thing once he actually puts the ball in.

Don't think Modric did much either, he's the playmaker that everyone passes too, that was about what happened, on the ball and created very little. Dirty little git aswell, he uses the fact that he's skinny and a midget to run around barging into people and using his size and stupid ref's as a reason to not constantly get yellowed.

Gibson, crap, Evra, not that bad, O'shea not great but don't understand the abuse. Hasn't he scored quite a few key goals for you both this and last season, he got a few goals when the team was misfiring early season and early season I seem to remember him bombing forwards constantly and getting in the box, getting on the end of moves to get the goal and doing fairly well. He's done a damn site more for the team than Nani has all year.

Maybe you're thinking of Fletcher? I dont think O'shea has scored many this year (off the top of my head I can't think of any) Nani's goal and assist return has actually been pretty good considering how many games he's played (6 and 7 I think)

O'Shea got some important goals last year (Everton and Liverpool).

I agree with everything Drunkenmaster said bar his comments on Modric, I thought Modric did pretty well.

I'd hardly say that he did nothing. He had a couple of shots and put some decent balls into the box. It's just a shame that we had Pav/Bent up front so there was no-one about to get on the end.

Apart from when he ran past about four players and got a shot off?

Lennon and Modric played very well. So did Zokora, Jenas, Dawson, King and Ekotto. We probably would have won if Bent had any footballing ability at all.

multiple places stating Foster has been given a new four year deal worth £1.5m - and that looks like total amount, and not per year - seems very low to me even for Foster with his injuries (£7.5k a week if Ive worked it out right)

I don't think there's any point in putting him against Ronaldo's free kicks in training, someone to fetch the ball would be more appropriate.
