Weekend Football Thread - 15/8 to 17/8 *spoilers*

Have to admit - Arsenal are usually very good at puting chances away (unlike Man Utd at times, hopefully that will change with Mr Owen up front)

I fully believe that today's Arsenal XI will beat anyone on their day. The problems will arrive when someone like Cesc, Arshavin or RvP get injured - the squad players simply aren't good enough imo.

Having said that, great performance and nice to see Cesc getting his scoring boots on.

Just saw the Crystal Palace goal.

Don't know what I think of it to be honest.

Just **** performance from the officials, I can't believe they missed it.

Apparently it was disallowed for the push on Skuse by Sears which was as clear as the ball going into the net from behind the goal and where the ref was standing, that what the linesman has said to our players.

The way Sears celebrated was obvious he had done something wrong as he stopped for a couple of seconds to wait for the linesman to give a free kick.

But rightly or wrongly the real winner was football, i'd rather watch Yate town every week than the unadulterated drivel served up by colin at Palace for more than the obligatory 90 minuites i have to see them every season.

The injuries to Walcott, Rosicky and Nasri might actually mean Arsenal adopt a non kamikaze midfield style and allow their best player in Fabregas to do what he wants.

I liked the look of Vermaelen, strong in the air and there were a number of occasions that he could have dived in but stayed on his feet and made the tackle.

I didn't see the push :o

I didn't hear anything mentioned about the push either

I thought, it was an in defendable mistake by the officials.

Sears clearly had his hand on Cole Skuse's chest hence the reason he started to stumble, was clear as day from behind the goal and to the side, ref would have had an obscured view but the linesman could and should have sean it as clear as day, before the ball even went in the linesmans flag was up for something, nobody quite knows what, but the Linesman has said to our players that there was a push which is why he disallowed the goal.

It was one of those fouls where 6/10 times you wont get the decision as it would have been a soft decision, but looks as if this was one of those times where you do get it.

Considering Warnocks fury i'm not sure why he wasn't saying that he wanted his players to score an OG when Hartleys goal was ruled out, or we were not given 1 of the 2 stone wall penalties we should have had, for the record the referee was probably the most incompetent official i have ever seen but until we know why the goal wasn't given then there is not much that can be said.

The linesmans flag went up pretty quick for something, and from where he was, unless his eyes temporarily fell out there really is no way the ref couldn't have seen that the ball didn't go in. It really was that obvious.

And as for us being unsporting well considering Palace have a transfer embargo on them because of payments owed for players they have bought, including 250,00 quid owed to us, i think thats a mite more unsporting than not giving them a goal when the linesman has said he disallowed the goal for a perfectly legitimate reason (weather he got the decision right or wrong is irrelevent) is a bit strange to say the least.

The sooner Warnock and the tango man are as far away from Professional football the better.

I didn't see the push.

You're the only person to mention it, Nope still don't see it after looking again.
Defender stumbles slightly.

Goal should have stood, very poor decision. Shocking. I don't agree with having camera's or allowing the ref to see it again, but I just can't understand how that goal wasn't allowed to stand.

I don't see how them having a transfer embargo on them affects the referees performance. I don't know what I'd of had my team do, or wanted my team to do put in that situation. Allowing them to score, could have been a good sporting thing to do. Palace should have scored again, ect ect.

That probably because i'm one of the few people taking an interest that was actually there, if there was a camera angle from behind the goal it would be there if i can see it from towards the back of the stand there is a good chance that the linesman saw something as well, as i said it wasn't much and there is no way the ref would have seen it, and i'd be peeved if we'd had a goal disallowed for such a small foul, but it happens all the time.

The ref saw the ball go in as he was giving the goal, when the linesman called him over to tell him that he had seen an infringement, thats why there was silence when the goal went in, because Sears didn't really start to celebrate as he saw the linesman was flagging and only started as the ref was about to give the goal, then the linesman intervined.

There are plenty of people mentioning the push as if the BBC or Sky had bothered to show the full or even most of the interview with Gary Johnson he said that our players were told by the linesman that he gave the foul for a push on our defender.

Rightly or wrongly the decision wasn't given because the officials didn't see the ball go in as otherwise why the hell was the ref about to give the goal? it was disallowed because the linesman saw a foul.

I don't see a foul against the defender ?

I have no idea why it wasn't given. Might well have been for a push, if it was, it was a very soft decision, many would have given it, maybe the linesman didn't think it had gone in ? I don't know.

Sky, BBC and the Guardian haven't mentioned a push. I'm not too fussed about it, I think it was a bad decision not to allow the goal to stand.

All I saw today was the APPAULING EXCUSE FOR A TRY ON GOAL FROM MISTER DROGBA. HOW CLOSE DO YOU WANT TO BE TO THE GOAL??? HOOOOOOW

At least he redemed himself

Did i see right, Shola Ameobi actually had composure and balance yesterday, not to mention score a hatrick, and lets face it Reading are a top 3 or so side.

Lets see if he can build on it!

dont hope too much, you should be lucky that owen makes 10-15 appearancesnever mind 10-15 goals a season. He only scores tap-ins anyway, and thats not very often :D
