Weekend Football Thread - 15/8 to 17/8 *spoilers*

Was chatting to a mate who I hadn't seen for a while at a wedding this weekend. He is now working for FIFA in their audio/visual dept. He just did work at the confederations cup with the referees, pulling together video footage for training etc.

Apparently FIFA don't want to make football like cricket and tennis because the controversial decisions are good to increase exposure of the sport and get people talking. The more I thought about it the more it makes sense. How much more exposure does a controversial incident get versus one that is computer analysed and proved correct or incorrect? Quite clever really.

I agree with that but when the ball goes in the net then comes straight back out is not right, I mean it was in, WELL IN, its not even a talking point, most people at the ground saw it go in, the whole country did on tv and so have the whole world. So thats 4 men in black vs 6 billion. I mean what do you say to a bunch of lads that have worked all season to play football and when they score a goal legitimate, what do you tell them, lower league stuff nobody cares.

Add that to tackles that break other players legs, we will be seeing all season, its just not cricket, no pun intended.

I only agree with with Goal line technology - And changing the rules so that you can still ban a player, after he has already been booked by the ref. It's a joke that you can't IMO.

Never understand it, Cricket and Rugby Union/League have been gaining attendance yet Football has been struggling to justify the price of a season ticket. Football things its at the top but its not the only spectator sport in this country.

Yeah, but thing is, it's Warnock, so it's OK :)

Eh?

I don't know much about Union other than the fact that at club level it is rubbish, and at International level it is watchable at best. League is a million miles away from football. It is run by clowns and has no money.

Agree with that.
The funny thing is if that ref was somebody like Bruce Grobbelaar or Hansie Cronje they would be in court as we speak.
