Weekend Football Thread - 15/8 to 17/8 *spoilers*

Few things in football give me as much joy as seeing Warnock fume & rant:p

Goal line techology is still ages away from being used for some daft rerason only FIFA know and they're going to try 4 linesmen first which I believe is scheduled to be tried out soon at some level:)

I think it's pretty shameful from the whole of Bristol City team.
Yes, the referee and linesman got it wrong, but how many City players saw the ball go in, tv evidence has been pretty conclusive and despite this the club claim they did nothing wrong. Sorry boys, that's cheating, the only thing we can hope is that over the course of the season that you get your just deserve, you will reap what you sow !
This was not a marginal decision of whether the whole of the ball was over the line or not like the man utd vs spurs debacle.
Just take a look at how Arsenal responded when they played Sheffield United in the fa cup a few years ago and they scored a goal instead of returning the ball after it was put out due to an injury to a player. Think Bristol City could've at least made a similar gesture

Seriously guys, as an Arsenal supporter, how could you expect me to even contemplate calling that Spurs attempt anything more than marginal, after all Mendes did handle the ball and also spat at the man utd manager ( all off camera offcourse ! )
BUT the only cheat there was the keeper as he was the only one that definitely knew it had crossed the line, other players and ref included were at least 30yds away.
Bristol city players were all around that incident

Think its pretty off this whole Palace goal business.

Why should Bristol City have let them score? Its no different to a team scoring a perfectly good goal but having it disallowed for offside. Are we going to start giving away free goals for any mistakes like that? How about when a team should have a blatent penalty but the referee doesn't give it. The defender knows he has fouled him, should they then deliberately give away another penalty to correct the referee?

Mistakes are made. Deal with it. Everyone else has to.

Not a Man United fan by chance, the ball was over the line, I mean the rules state the whole ball has to be over the line, it was, so its a goal.

Yeah because all us Man Utd fans definitely don't think it crossed the line. It's blooming obvious it was at least a yard past the line, anyone who thinks different is demented.

I understand the argument, "he wasn't going to do anything with the ball"

That's the reason why the keeper didn't get sent off anyway, it has been taken into consideration. A foul is a foul though regardless of where the ball is going.

As for crowd chanting, I was flabbergasted by the Everton match, there was virtually nothing coming from them compared to the travelling support (even before the 2nd and 3rd goals went in). At least that's how it seemed on ESPN, maybe they fudged it with their mic positions I dunno.

I support my local team too. :p

Not my fault Newry City are ****. :p

I hear ya lad, local football here is a bit pants really isn't it. :p

Keith Gillespie is back in the country, Ronaldinho is next.

woah woah woah !

Don't let other people hear that you support two teams.

:D I do have to say, you have a sense of humour about it which is good. :p

Was chatting to a mate who I hadn't seen for a while at a wedding this weekend. He is now working for FIFA in their audio/visual dept. He just did work at the confederations cup with the referees, pulling together video footage for training etc.

Apparently FIFA don't want to make football like cricket and tennis because the controversial decisions are good to increase exposure of the sport and get people talking. The more I thought about it the more it makes sense. How much more exposure does a controversial incident get versus one that is computer analysed and proved correct or incorrect? Quite clever really.

Football needs technology as it stands now far too many results are being wrongly influenced by incorrect refereeing decisions.

I don't understand why they can't just give the 4th official a small TV to watch on the sidelines he could clear up any confusion in a matter of seconds, usually when these events occur you get 30-60secs of players crowding the referee anyway so it's not like it will slow the game down.
