Weekend Football Thread 17 - 19 *spoilers*

Ah OK. Just saw the youtube vid and was under the impression that someone could have at least kicked it away.

Even so, why did Reina attempt to save it? :p

If you think about it, Reina was just going in the direction the ball was originally travelling before it hit the beach ball.

it was put on the pitch by a liverpool fan but not just before the goal..you watch match of the day...its actually inside reinas goal way before the incident..its in the corner of the goal at the back...it was on the pitch before kick of and reina collected it and stashed it at the back of his net

its actually there on the long camera shot up the pitch before they kick off

It may have been on the pitch before then and removed, but it was thrown back onto the pitch just before the goal, it hadn't been sat there the whole time blowing around. You can see it in the clips being thrown up to the lad, presumeably by a steward.

Why should the goal have been disallowed? What are the rules regarding the ball hitting objects on the pitch?

Because the ball hit a foreign object, apparently it should've been disallowed and a drop ball.

Cheers lads - I thought it was the same as the ball hitting the ref etc, play carries on? Unless I'm wrong on that one too lol. Hey, I'm not a ref :)

I can't recall ever seeing this kinda thing happen, so didn't know the rules ;)

The last time I saw a balloon of that size unmarked in the 6 yard box, I was watching Micky Quinn playing for Newcastle.

There's not enough noise being made by the media about the shoddy piece of officiating. The ref in the Ukraine game goes to send off the wrong player and they're baying for blood. The ref at the Stadium of Light allows Sunderland's 12th man to send Reina the wrong way and nothing. It's just a "fluke".

I don't know how Mike Jones ever got out of that stadium alive.

Evra was not useless for 18 months, that is just a factually wrong statement.

Wellbeck came on for about 6 minutes, hardly a good chance to watch him. Dong never played in the league so I don't now how can you draw the comparison. Plus Wellbeck has scored 3 top quality goals for united.

But that doesn't suit with your kneejerk reaction persona, so yeah WELLBECK SUCKS AND WILL NEVER MAKE IT!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Hardly knee jerk, he's played through the academy for 3 years, which I DO watch. So no, not knee jerk at all.
Welbeck did play only a matter of minutes, in that time he made 1 run off the ball into an attacking position and another with it, where he was tackled and stood their whilst their defender walked past him.
This is also the same player who got dragged off against Sunderland for putting in a performance that can only be described as woeful at best.

You act like I only tune into Match of the Day before commenting, as opposed to watching every senior game and most academy and reserve games. When I comment, they are anything but knee jerk.

Yeah well it was comments like "fabio will be the best full back in the world" after he had played about 5 minutes and your general smug "i know all, you all know nothing" attitude that made me glad you did :)
You cant blame Evra for losing out like that when he's a foot shorter than a lot of strikers.
Questions should instead be asked why Nevilles one game of the year comes against such a side, when without Vidic we needed more height.

Vidic isn't that tall and has looked rather weak in the air in recent times, although he does have a presence, more so than Evans who is physically a little too weak, though I do agree with the comment regarding Neville, especially when O'Shea who is tall and strong has been our most consistent defender this season.

I can't blame Evra? We've seen him edge out and out jump before, letting a man get around behind him isn't good, especially as we've conceded 3 goals in recent times through this exact problem, although in this case the blame lies directly at Gary Neville and his frankly awful clearance.

Did I say Fabio would be the best left back in the world? Or did I say he could potentially be?

Chelsea were crap again, Deco led that charge as always, you can count on him to contribute almost nothing, he's pointless.
I've seen better defending and finishing on Sunday mornings, Villa played reasonably well but didn't have to do anything out of the ordinary to beat us.
My despair didn't last long though as the hilarity at the SOL helped lift my spirits.

The PL this season is going to be lost rather than won, no-one has been consisitently good so far.

Bit of a mixed bag, poor for 30mins after halftime but we were always going to have too much for Brum. Some lovely counterattacks but the usual scenario of not enough people queuing up for crosses in normal play.

Gibbs was mostly decent aside from a shocking pass back straight to the opposition.

You can't blame Evra for not having any height, no.
No amount of positioning or effort on his part can prevent him from being beaten in the air at times.
I can't recall your exact post - you used to post about 20 times a day, most of which I only skimmed because I grew tired of your smug, self-righteous attitude.
But it was a silly post, considering the guys limited playing time.
Certainly my suggestion that Welbeck has something to him was a less optimistic claim and in no way deserving of your unfriendly and uncalled for response.
Perhaps your "blog" is a more suitable expression of your opinions, if you are unable to counter peoples opinions in a polite manner or to instead simply ignore them. ;)

IIRC it happened a few years ago. A low cross in along the ground and the defender that went to clear it claimed he was put off by a ballon. I can't remember if it lead to a goal, but the defender cleared nothing but fresh air and was left somewhat embarrassed.

???

Man City Versus sheffield United I believe, 2 seasons ago.

Citys "best fans in the world" threw balloons all over the pitch, United drill a cross across the box, the ball hits a balloon and deflects virtually at a right angle into the box and the goal stood.
*edit* I stand corrected, the dumb ass defender clears the baloon instead of the ball.

Gary Neville was definitely at fault for the Bolton goal - but even on merit they deserved at least one anyway (going by that though Utd deserved about 6 lol)

Absolutely spot on - couldnt agree more

Cech has seemingly lost his dominance, VDS cant possibly play every game of importance, and while Reina on current form is probably the best of the three he cant make up for who is infront of him all the time (admittedly yesterday was unfamiliar system defensively which made it look worse)

Back four (or three) are probably just as bad as each other in different ways - and even the basics arent being sorted out (goals from set plays) - all three teams are as shocking as the others

watched motd last night and i could not believe how crap liverpool were , sunderland out played them and deserved the win.

they really do have some poor quality players in there team and just shows without gerrard and torres they are not that good

Yeah no team is really playing that well. United have had fits and burts of looking exceptional and then they go and miss a shed load of chances and panic.

Looking forward to next week, if and it is a big if we can beat Liverpool away surely their title challenge may well be finished? I really hope SAF goes out to attack and not try and hold for a tactical draw.

I believe the EPL has been won with a team taking seven losses, but Liverpool are at five already, and it's only October.

I would think that another loss would surely finish it, unless they manage to win just about every other game.
