Weekend Football Thread 21-23 *spoilers*

Both skys showings were poor today.

Blackburn somehow made a team look worse than, Bolton looked doomed. When the home sides best looking player on the pitch is am ageing one trick pony fullback, you have to look at the manager.. Muggo (as we forest fans branded him) hasn't got a clue when the wheels fall off his one dimensional gameplan.

Bad time for the trotters fans:(

lol, couldn't help but smile watching that, some good football, but to be honest, not great football, how many were long balls or a 30yard throughball, Krancjars at the end, he's just stood in the box 5 yards clear of anyone, 2 make little effort to reach him when he got it and the one infront was too far away.

The most ridiculous thing is, Defoe didn't have a truly great game, he just had a good game, could have scored 8, maybe one or two more. But for me thats why Defoe should start for England, he constantly makes those runs, but is fully capable of creating chances with a couple very nice crosses, one for Crouch's chance in the 2nd half.

Wigan, well, I'm trying to think of a worse performance I've seen of late and I can't quite remember one.

Wigan without Bruce's ability to get the best out of the likes of Bramble, are just horrible defensively, the rare game the defence plays well they can be ok, when they all have a bad game, you have a game like today. Kirkland seemed quite good until the 4/5th goal went in, at which point he seemed to lose confidence and make mistakes.

I'm just embarrased, we probably will start Heskey ahead of Defoe in the world cup :(

EDIT:- Lol, forgot to mention Blackburns 2nd goal, so bad. if I was a manager I'd literally beat the crap out of any player who plays a backpass at the goal for any reason, pass, head always aim either side of the goal, every joke goal that happens is because the pass is "on target", like Neville/Robinson.

I'd agree DM. We didn't do anything spectacular (Lennon's performance was top notch though and Kranjcar was fantastic) but we did take our chances and there's not much more you can ask for. You can only beat the team that's infront of you. :)

Wigan's defending was nothing short of atrocious in the second half.

It was, just ridiculous, I do think Defoe is one of the few strikers who simply never stops making himself available, for almost every goal you see him move from one of the CB's to another, lurk around behind him, point around him and start his run then bend it behind after the pass went off. Frankly thats the single easiest way to create chances in football but very few are good at making it, or determined enough to simply constantly do it.

But yes, its nuts that Spurs weren't that superb, and still got 9 and I'm not even sure, Defoe must have been in behind with a chance to shoot at least 3 more times, hit the bar with a great attempt in the first half, did he hit the bar a 2nd time? N'Zogbia did have a couple decent shots and moved well, did ok, but the majority of the team were pretty much all on their worst game, when that happens and the other team isn't having a bad game its always going to end up one sided.

Bramble on his worst game all year is probably the worst CB in the prem, heck, maybe the football league though :p

Defoe had a very good even brilliant game against a pretty awful Wigan side, they didnt deserve their goal due to handball (even if it was hidden from the camera replay), Spurs probably missed 5 or 6 decent chances between 1st and 2nd goals, I actualy thought Lennon was better than Defoe (even though the poor full back never got near him)

Spurs could only play the team infront of them and they did astoundingly well in that respect - but doesnt make any of their players world class or automatically worthy of WC spots until they do it consistantly, which is where they fall down (unfortunately)

I was at the game incredible atmosphere you really had to pinch yourself at times during the second half, wigan really were truly awful but lennon , krancjar and defoe would have given most defences a torrid time on that display.

Feel a bit sorry for Wigan especially the young manager and old boy Erik Edman who had a torrid time, hopefully they can bounce back next week.

Bentleys free kick went down as an own goal.

Not sure how this went down as OG tbh.. Goalie got a hand to it but he didn't really change the direction of the ball. It was on target anyway.

Spurs play better without Keanne. We played much better when he came of against Sunderland and yesterday showed that he wasn't missed. The team seemed to find much more space to move around.

Defoe, Crouch, Lennon and Kranjcar (what a bargain he may well turn out to be) were fantastic.

Is that 4 or 5 hatricks for spurs this season?

incidently, I was at the Bristol game in 1977. My dad took me that season 'cos it was cheap second division football.. Tight wad. :D

Bounced off the bar and hit the back of the keeper, bouncing it back in.

exactly - the keeper really didnt make any difference (whether it hit the back of his head or hit the ground it was going in anyway)

Harsh on Bentley if you ask me (and the goalie)

Lennon made how many of the goals , apart from the one he didnt score, 3 or 4? Most of which would have been not scored had it been for a decent left full back

Lennon did very well but the right back wasnt at the same game lol
