Weekend Football Thread 21-23 *spoilers*

exactly - the keeper really didnt make any difference (whether it hit the back of his head or hit the ground it was going in anyway)

Harsh on Bentley if you ask me (and the goalie)

Lennon made how many of the goals , apart from the one he didnt score, 3 or 4? Most of which would have been not scored had it been for a decent left full back

Lennon did very well but the right back wasnt at the same game lol

Noel Edmans. :p

wow wigans defending was shocking. how much space did they give the spurs players? lol. for the first goal they just watched lennon from about 10 yards away line up his cross. then they just decided not to mark defoe at all the whole game.

Robbie Savage made that joke last night on MotD2!

thats exactly why I smiled lol

Spurs will only be worthy of 4th if they can keep the performances going, thats the thing about majority of clubs (Spurs, City, Aston Villa) in the chasing pack - they are far too inconsistant, and one week with a sublime performance flows into two or three weeks of averageness

Dont get me wrong Liverpool have dropped a level or two (mainly through injuries, but also from effort - 1st half at the weekend for example) and certainly dont deserve the place on merit - but does anyone else automatically in their place? So far I would say not, its too close to call with too much of the season left to play

You wouldnt call Liverpool outright favourites for 4th place though - considering Arsenal was in a similar state of affairs last season you had far more faith they would get in the Top 4 than Liverpool this time round...

ps3ud0

Villa are probably better defensively, largely due to fitness, they had better players in Laursen last year, which showed in the first half of the season. This year, the insistance on playing Heskey which screws with Gabbys and Youngs form they aren't nearly as good in attack.

Spurs are good, just not as good as they looked yesterday, Defoe had a stormer and would have probably put a couple past anyone, but most of his chances would have been very easy to defend and he shouldn't have had a look in for most of his goals.

Last year was so full of defensive minded crap, this year top to bottom the leagues more attacking. Even Bolton are trying to play more attacking football, they just happen to be crap at it, which leaves their fairly poor defense even more vunerable. I won't be remotely surprised if the title winner scores more than ever before, likewise the top half in general should score more than the top half of any previous year.

I'm not honestly sure if we've had more bigger wins than any previous year, but it sure seems that way so far, the amount of 4/5/6 goal wins this year has been rather ridiculous considering we're not half way through yet.

Honestly this season we're at the point where scoring less than 4 against Blackburn seems almost a poor game, which is also true of maybe Hull, Burnley(away), Wolves and wigan and probably Pompie.

Though that also seems to mean, the more crappy games this year are still often full of goals, so the league is far more attacking and more exciting.

For me Spurs have the best shot at 4th right now, City would have a very good shot if Hughes manages to drop SWP for, I dunno, a footballer and starts Ireland ahead of Barry in general, though Barry on the wing instead of SWP is probably a good option. AT the minute City aren't clicking, if they do they have the team to go 4th. I just can't see Liverpool in the hunt at all right now.

It's a really good point, I said the other day I bet an English man blatently cheats and nothing gets said, I suppose he isn't English, but still, where's the anger, furore, kids dying and end of football? It was almost identical to Henry's, I'd say worse ..

International refereeing (for WC quali etc not stuff like Europa league) should be at a higher standard than standard league stuff though imo

Its a fine line - but still thin that kind of game should have no doubts at all (what would the EPL be like if all 38 weekends (or there abouts given weekday games etc) had no controversy lol

BBC ticker is claiming that Wigan players to refund cost of fans tickets after yesterdays drubbing by Spurs

(good on them - not that it will make much difference to even their modest pay packets , by EPL standards at least lol)

Still, the media should be having a massive rant about it, it was an even clearer hand ball than Henry's, there was nobody in the way

Yep, good on them indeed.

I feel a bit sorry for them though to be honest; it's just one of those freak results which happen from time to time in football (I think that Southampton got thrashed a few years back, for example - or indeed Liverpool winning a match at the moment).
