Weekend Football Thread 23-26 *spoilers*

That was easily our best performamce of the season, there was some stunning football at times.
What a difference it makes when Deco's out of the side and Joe Cole's in, I'd forgotten how good he is and how he can light up a game :)

hehe, its Blackburn, Deco would have been almost as good, the biggest problem with Deco is, you bought a Lampard backup, Deco wants to play where Lampard does in exactly his role. He's not as good as Lampard, but he's no where near crap. ITs like Spain, Iniesta and Xavi are excellent, but Fabregas came on and took over and everything ran through him.

Deco's a fantastic player to have as a backup but realistically you need a wide players with some pace alongside Lampard, not another Lampard.

Good game, but Blackburn are just a very poor team, without any real centre backs, like us against them, ripped them to shreds, but against 4 fullbacks and a crap midfield it wasn't surprising. Still great to watch those games, some great stuff , might just make Utd players feel more pressure for tomorrow aswell.

Hull/pompie were balls today, Pompie having been actually pretty good the last few games could have done with a big win plus we could all laugh at Brown :(

Spurs, meh, take off Keane, leave Crouch on, when Lennon got injured just added to that awful decision.

Good to see Brentford finally getting a win again, started off the season so damn well. Bunch of silly losses with very stupid defensive errors, lost 2-3 games on the trot where they conceded 2-3 goals with only 2-3 shots, while dominating the rest of a game.

I was goihng to ask whether it was just blackburn being ****, and it looks like it was :D

Seriously - really glad Joe has made it back, pity the his name sake isnt as nice a guy lol

It was about time the "real" Chelsea got themselves noticed, but with PR in goal any team would concede a few ;)

(think Chelsea will keep the summit for a while now to be honest - at least until the Utd / SBridge game in a few weeks

Is it true Joe Cole is not signing a new contract and that his existing one runs out in the summer?

Would be a great little player for United, and SAF has openly spoke about how much he admires him :D

Never happen - JC is a london boy born and bred (or bread even lol)

HE would be a GREAT addition to any team in England, but I just cant see it happening (and its probably the club if anyone hesitating just to see he makes it back ok)

It was said on ESPN that Joe Cole doesn't want to sign a new contract till he knows he's got a place nailed down in the team, fair enough really as a player reaching the prime of his career cant really afford to be playing second fiddle especially to the likes of Mikel, Ballack and Deco

Steady on there !

Spurs have a great squad don't you know ;)

A good squad yes, but I'll be quite surprised if you finish in the top four this season - if you do it'll only because Liverpool fall completely out of contention and they're not the kind of team that you write off just yet. That said, I did expect perhaps 2-1 from your lot today, so I am surprised at the loss considering you were at home too. Next month's games will be all telling in my opinion.

Cole's position is mostly between him, Malouda and kalou, yes Kalou got a couple goals, but any injury to Drogba and he's used more as a striker. Malouda, is a complete joke of a footballer. How can he be worried about being first team at a club where he's the only out and out winger there, Malouda doesn't count as a professional footballer, and Kalou is more of a striker.

Sounds more like someones waiting for the bigger fatter contract he'll be offered once he's proved he is fully fit and an England international, rather than the smaller, you're injured, what if you never get fit, contract he's probably been offered.

Frankly I won't write a team off for losing to Stoke, nor anyone else. Their missing Defoe, their best player IMHO and Modric. Every team can lose a bizarre game, against a good team or a crap team, Arsenal have still got to prove we can beat someone in the top half of the table, Liverpool won't finish top 4, Chelsea have to show they can keep wining with Essien, Kalou, Drogba and Mikel all missing, if they take any key injuries aswell, with very little depth upfront theres the possibility of a lot of lost points in Jan-Feb.

Infact, having a quick look, Utd have played 6 against the top half of the table, won 5, drawn 1, Chelsea have played 6 against the top half, won 4 drawn 2.

Arsenal have played 2 against the top half, and lost both. We've got the least games against the top half of anyone in the league I believe, thats not to say we'll certainly lose every game to the top half, obviously not, but its very unlikely we'll continue to pick up as many points or be as high up as our opposition evens out, IE we play more top teams and everyone else plays a few lower teams.
