I just have to laugh at the fact everybody is digging knives into Capello when we've pretty much qualified already. Makes a nice change from struggling through at the final hurdle (or not).
But hey, I'll leave you guys bickering while I enjoy the fact that England are actually winning games and will qualify. Sure, we might get found out by better teams at the world cup but lets wait and see until then.
Errm, we've played Spain, lost without a chance, we played France, we lost, they played badly without a full strength squad IIRC, and they aren't certain to qualify for the cup and we drew again with Holland, another team with next to no chance of winning the cup.
So of the 3 "top teams" we've played we've already lost to the best of them, lost to a team uncertain of qualification(largely due to a bonehead manager) and drew with a team unlikely to impose themselves in the world cup beyond the group stage.
Some people complain because unlike Andorra, qualification should be a given, we qualified under Sven easily, yet still failed at the big stage. We didn't qualify under McClown, but didn't actually look a worse team than we do now. We're picking the same players, playing badly, cheating to win games and whoopdedoo, we're going to qualify.
Any England fan should expect qualification without any shadow of a doubt. There should only be 6-8 truly great teams with a chance of winning the world cup, we are one of those teams, qualification is NOTHING to get excited about. Other teams are happy just to be there, we shouldn't be, realistically we should be unhappy to not hit the semi's, quarters at the WORST.
Nothing at all about the squad or the way we play has improved in the past 8 years, whats to be happy about. McClown's team wasn't massive worse than it is now, it was marginally worse, we only missed out on qualification by a single point against two far stronger teams than were in our previous qualification group.
