Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 18-22

fair point about the defence but goals come from elsewhere not just torres and gerrard now, rafa seems to be rotating less too which is a massive plus for my ff team :D

Decent display from the gunners today although with our posession i hardly saw much action behind the goal in the 2nd half :D

Hard to get used to not booing Eboue though, to be fair he did well at times today but still had that rush of blood to the noggin inside the box.

I can't make my mind up whether it will be Liverpool or Arsenal that lose the place in the top four this year.

It will be neither, city have so many volatile personalities that they will implode at some point this season especially with Hughes in charge and spurs good start will no doubt come to an end before xmas ...utd has shown the gulf between the top 4 and them already.

Great result for Villa today, the kind of games we need to be winning to try and get anywhere near what we did last season. Definitely over our start of season blip against Wigan. Won 4 of 5 now with 3 clean sheets in a row, I'm getting more impressed with each week, just need to keep the momentum.

They're too reliant on Torres and Gerrard imo

We keep hearing this but last season went to prove that to be no longer true. We were without 1 or the other for the majority of last season and both for spells yet we had our best Premier League season ever. We were the highest scorers in the league and the only side to have 3 players to score 10 league goals too.

Of course they're massively important to us and we're a far better side with them in the team but we've proven time and time again that even without them that we're more than a match for 99% of teams.

I agree with you about how our defense is looking but it's not unusual for our defense to look dodgy early in the season.

Very happy with the win but it's another two goals against which is worrying. If we play like that against a half decent team we'll end up getting thumped especially if Carragher and Skrtel don't find some form soon. Both were accidents waiting to happen all game and we're very lucky the human tampon's finally found some form because he did a lot of mopping up today.

Not much to say about our attacking players as they all played reasonably well without setting the world alight.

Really hate liverpool games, can't remember the last time I watched a fair result involving Liverpool. Skrtel should have been off, Cole got past, he put both arms around him and rugby tackled him to the floor, how thats not a red (and not even a foul) I have no clue. THe Caragher one was a touch soft, though on the replay you see after the arm goes up he them puts his weight behind shoving him in the ribs aswell.

Realistically Liverpool should have been down to 10 men fairly early in the game and Johnson somehow got away with a good dozen tackles on Hines that were blatant fouls before being called on it. Added to a Torres "slip" that looked suspciously like trying to hurt West Hams most influencial player on the pitch and I just can't stand their luck.

Considering West Ham were hard done by and had several injured players and started with two not match fit players they did exceptionally well. Behrami just back didn't even really show up, its a shame Kovac is such utter tripe and not remotely good enough to step in.

Liverpool were very poor, considering Behrami, Noble, Faubert, Kovac didn't show up, Cole played 30 odd minutes injured, Upson, easily their best centre back, was injured early.

Some good signs for West Ham though, Gabbidon back, Hines looking am IMMENSE prospect, Diamante looking like he might be very good, Behrami at least back from his major injury, hopefully just a small tweak due to lack of match fitness, Cole playing great still and Parker back to his best. Is Collison out injured, because last year he turned into a great winger, he and Behrami were such quality on the wings, with Hines as a front me with Cole behind him they could be very very good when everyones up to match fitness.

Why do you bother reading it?

I've seen some people suggest he's a troll but he'd need even the smallest amount of sense to be that and that's giving him far too much credit.

Just saw MotD. Although Arsenal deserved the win and score, I was left feeling a little underwhelmed. How is it that a 4-0 win feels like we still scraped by? Crazy. We're missing a core at the moment. Varmeejling is coming along leaps and bounds which is great to see but the core we had in Nasri and somewhat in Arshavin are clearly missing at the momen. Eboue - bless him - is trying so hard at the moment, but often it seems that he's merely getting in the way. How many rebounds have Arsenal scored now as a direct result of Eboue being in the right place at the right time? Two, Three? As much as I'm a little weary of reserve keepers, I'm still keen to see what Mannone can produce; Alumnia has seemed a little off his game of late.

Caught the 'pud game and it was interesting to watch the Hammers go toe to toe - they're certainly a much more confident team this season. It was great to watch Torres at work as he has been far too quiet up until this game. I was beginning to wonder if all those collisions and black-eyes were beginning to get the better of his game.

Tomorrow I think it's going to possibly be 2-1 to Utd. City are without Abe so I can't see them causing too much worry. Chelsea and Spurs should be interesting to watch too. I think it's either going to be 1-1, 0-0 or 1-0 to Chelsea. Can't have Spurs above Arsenal too much longer, it's a bad omen. :p

For all the criticism he's been getting, he had still scored 3 in 6 before today. Just goes to show how high his standards are.

Another fairly rubbish Newcastle performance today but still another win. When we start playing well we should thrash a few teams.

Carroll looks better and better which is good. Class finish for his goal and had another chance where he juggled the ball in the box and then scissor kicked it off the bar. :D Just been called for for England U21s recently as well, he should be a quality striker in the future.
