Weekend Football Thread *spoilers be inside*

Chelsea's defence stopped dead Arsenal's strikers, yes. See above. There's nothing special in what Chelsea did.

Chelsea did not have the better over Arsenal's midfield despite what you think. Arsenal's midfield held possession and had Chelsea on the back-foot for the majority of the second half. Why do Chelsea feel the need to 'concede possession' when they're 2-0 up? Most teams will be charging for the third straight away.

Well to be fair, its how most teams play, the only thing that varies is the amount of goals up they go, or time they alow to go by, before they do it.

Chelsea are strong enough to not need to go chasing a third against most teams.

United do it a lot, especially If they go up against the better sides.

Its something Arsenal have never learned to do under Wenger, its always been a case of surging forward and scoring more than the other team.
Great when you have an excellent team of 6ft plus world class players, not great when you have a team of diminutive lightweights who treat every match like a two touch training session.

Can't fault what you've said. And to be fair, if I were in charge of Chelsea it's exactly how I would've played the game too. Chelsea did exactly as I expected they would and it worked just as predicted. A point I made earlier is that there's nothing special in what Chelsea did here though - it's Arsenal's Achilles' heel. What frustrates me and I'm sure many other Arsenal fans - is Wenger's apparent inability to do anything about it when we all trust and believe in him enough to know that he can. It's not even a case that he hasn't recognised the issue - it's more of a slight confusion to what else may be going on.

He's often said before that he refuses to buy or even go for certain players for fear of "destroying e.g. Denilson or Diaby". Funny really. Since sticking with those very players is itself ironically bringing the results down.

Would have agreed in the past but I think the midfield were good today for Arsenal and the problem was up front

fluffed his lines with that chance though.

i think i play quite similarly to him to be honest, although my first touch is a bit better and I'm more powerful.

Benzema has been disappointing.

I didn't think Messi was anywhere near his best from the bits I saw. Just shows how good he is though when you think he can be better than that.

I've just watched the whole Villa v Spurs game, pretty dull first half but we were very good in the second and overall I have to say we deserved to win but have to be happy with a point at Villa Park.

Villa are a good team with a good manager and will definately be challenging for 4th along with us.

Really starting to warm to Kranjcar and he's doing a superb job of filling in for Modric. Great player who's going to give Harry a headache once Modric is back as he's playing too well to not be in the first 11. Also Bassong impressed me yesterday and Dawson was superb as captain.

Very tough decision but a good problem to have. I think big Tom is starting to shine and it will be tough to leave him out.

Lennon - Palacios - Kranjcar - Modric

With players like Huddlestone, Jenas and Bentley on the bench... I'm happy with that :)

I really enjoyed El Clasico I thought there was some fantastic football played.
I didn't think Messi or Barca were anywhere near their best, but I thought Real were quite good. Kaka made some wonderful runs and Ronaldo was massively uneffective. Messi surely comes from planet football :(

English football is so poor in comparison to Spain and South America.
