Weekend Football Thread *spoilers be inside*

I don't understand how people can say La Liga is a better league than the Premier League.. Barcelona are better than Chelsea/United/Liverpool/Arsenal I agree but before last season they weren't. One team being the best doesnt make the league better overall.

Real Madrid were pap before splashing out millions and will probably take a couple of years for the team to gel. Premier League is much better, you only have to look at the amount of English Teams reaching the quarters/semi's of champions league to see that. Liverpool are out this year yes, but before that Premier League teams have dominated for the past few seasons and will continue to do so this year.

Chelsea likely to be docked 3 points

due to the Chelsea fans failure to comply with the Emirates fire drill 20 mins before the end of the match.

No.

edit: *smacks head* I guess this must be a joke about all the arsenal fans leaving early. :p

About the Spanish league, the players mostly have great technique and play football which is far, far more entertaining to watch than in England, however, I don't think their technique would translate so well in the English league which is much faster and more aggressive, it's much harder to do in the English league which makes players like Fabregas like gold dust

as an arsenal fan, i knew the gooners wouldnt win that game, i was hoping for a draw, but it was not to be, luckily i already had drogba in my fantasy league team as captain, so all is not as bad as it seems lol

If anyone is interested the meeting to discuss Chester City's standing is currently under way. Apparently a decision should be reached by 4 and a statement will be given soon after.

We could do with Chelsea dropping points again soon. Also the form of the teams supposedly competing for 4th has been a joke over the last few weeks.

Chelsea will drop points against Man City this coming weekend - how many draws have City had in a row - 7 or something?

People who say the title is already over are completely stupid imo - although Chelsea are looking good (its also shot shy teams like Arsenal making them look better than they really are assisting with this view though),

But equally we all know that club managers take the **** by pulling players out of squads with phantom injuries only for them to be fine 3 days later and while that's happening it's easier to understand why international managers aren't so sympathetic.

I think that partially has helped fuel Wenger's irk at the whole situation.

He isn't like certain other managers claiming injuries. He's often had concerns but then never really acted upon them apart from speaking out. With the ease that our side get knocks you'd have thought he'd properly get stuck in, and make a request if the game is a friendly.

Turns out that RvP's injury is much worse than initially thought and there are rumours flying around he could miss the rest of the campaign. We should think about getting an Owen style compensation.

Barca have been very good for a while now :p
Spain have a lot of good teams, but because teams in Spain play football the results aren't always so easy to call, they all tend to attack each other and play football.

Barca destroyed United a few years ago in the Champions League, and Chelsea but thanks to some stand out performances from a few United players they went through.

Real Madrid are a good side, they're winning games while not playing very well, I'd like to see them come up against Arsenal in the Champions League.

The Premier League isn't better, it just pays the most, it makes up for its lack of "football" by been very quick, long ball football, very few of the players in this League have the technical ability of the Spanish players. It's all about been quicker and stronger, not about how well you can play football.

Barca had 65% possesion over two legs against Chelsea, on another day Chelsea would have been hammered (or had a million pens if you're a chelsea fan :p)

When United played Barca a few years ago, and United scraped through Barca again dominated.

Barca have been a very good side for a while. I don't understand why people say Barca have over night turned in to a great side, they've been great for a long time.

Now hang on.

dominated is not the same as destroyed is it? How many goals did Barca manage to score over that 180 minutes of football....none wasn't it? Can't be that good then can they. In the first game we had a penalty saved and should have had another 2, the result could have been far more one sided.

Okay, They destroyed United in last years Champions League final.

Barca have been a very good side for a while now. They dominated against United a few years ago and were unlucky to go out (good goal from Scholes sending United through). They dominated Chelsea, and it was embarassing for Chelsea. At least United put up some kind of fight.

I wouldn't say that. I would say Man United bent over, lubed themselves up and allowed Barca to sodomize them for 90 minutes. If Man United would have said "Hey, we're Man United and Barca can adapt to our tactics" rather than only worrying about how they were going to contain Barca, I'm certain they'd have fared much better.

*sigh* They were not unlucky to go out at all. We played far better than them, we scored and then defended better than they could attack. Chelsea were unlucky not to go through against them. There was no 'luck' involved in our victory over them.

Look at when Barca have lost / struggled. Barca have lost to sides domestically and it's because teams attack them.

Yet everytime I see the "best teams in the best league in the world" they line up to defend. I know Barca are a very good side, but not according to Andy Gray, he only thinks a player is worth having if he "scores against English teams".

I don't blame Sky or Gray, their selling their product, I just dislike this opinion when it's adopted by people.
