** Weekend Football Thread ** *spoilers*

Well Liverpool unlikely, Fulham is possible, Villa unlikely but you never know what can happen on the final day. But still 3 points against Boro would mean Hull require a point.

Hull have

Villa away
Stoke Home
Bolton away
United Home

Can't see them getting a point against United or Villa (unless the title is won by then and United do what we did last season :p), Stoke at home is probably their best chance. Either way it's going to be quite close.

I struggle to see Newcastle getting a single point, Middlesborough play good football, and played well against a very inform Arsenal.

Hull are playing really badly at the moment and haven't had any luck, I think they could get something at Stoke ( Agree with you on that ), same way Newcastle could get something at Middlesborough.

You've got to remember, Stoke are safe.
Middlesborough aren't.
They have as much going on that game as Newcastle do.

I do think boro are the better team, but with the Newcastle home fans I think it could be a really close game, especially as both teams know what is riding on it.

Don't use the "fans at home" thing :p

It didn't work tonight against a very defensive and average Portsmouth.

If Newcastle had any chance of staying up they needed to win tonight.

I'll be seeing you at Hillsborough next season ;)

Newcastle were lucky last night, Pompey played the most dangerous of the football and with 65% of possession in the first quarter (all American sounding there) and the better of the possession in the second half shows that Newcastle simply couldn't hold on to the ball. On top of that Portsmouth also hit the post and should have had an absolute stonewaller of a penalty.

From Newcastles point of view, Beye put a few decent crosses in and Smith and Butt looked to control the midfield, but Butt just doesn't have the legs any more and Beye got murdered defensively by Belhadj and Davis who were able to come forward at will.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Owen is finished and Martins isn't good enough, so relying on them to get Newcastle out of relegation is mad. And as bad as Houghton is, who honestly thought the 'tactical nouse' of first time 'Manager', Shearer would be better? Newcastle board needs to stop listening to its fans.

I don't know why everyone expects Newcastle to beat MB? In my opinion MB play the better football.

We defiantly play the better football but we just can't win games and lack experience.

I don't want this to seem as an excuse as i know we have had a very bad season but we have also had possibly the unluckiest season i can remember us having.

There's nothing unlucky about having two inexperienced goalkeepers as options because you didn't buy a proper one when Schwarzer left.
Or when you play your most combative CB and best CB last season out of position for large parts of the season at LB and RB.
Or playing a clumsy, slow and poor CB in Huth every game.
Or Sticking with Downing, a player who doesn't move when needed and has no enthusiasm for the 'fight', especially when Johnson would work his nuts off and actually beat a man.
Or playing a striker who has NEVER scored goals ahead of Emnes who is fast or Alves who has good feet.

There are many reasons why Boro are where they are, those above are some of them.

Are you kidding me?! Dunno where you're living in Newcastle, but it must be under a rock! :p

I haven't got a clue what you're going on about, you honestly saying when Allardyce was sacked people were calling for Keegan?

Likewise with Shearer, granted everyone expected him to take the job somewhere down the line but nobody thought he'd work under Ashley.

I remember them calling for Keegan after a few rumours went around in the press. Shearer however was out of the blue, I thought it was an early April Fools joke at first!

I don't even live in Newcastle (have family there who are season ticket holders) and I'd being hearing whispers about Shearer.

I think it's the problem with listening to your fans, they know **** all about appointing managers like Shearer / Keegan.

I'm probably late to the party with this but...

The thing that got me about Shearer's appointment was that a selection of Newcastle fans said things like "I don't care if we go down as long as he's in charge" or "He won't be at fault, whatever happens". For me this is a shocking mentality to take, not caring about Premiership survival as long as Shearer is the boss. It seems like some Newcastle fans have already selected their scapegoat and have admitted defeat, there is still time to save their season but it feels like they'd rather just blame Ashley and go down.

I'd like to see Shearer keep them up, but then I think we might be in for a few of their players if they go down :p.
