** Weekend Football Thread ** *spoilers*

Well the results at the bottom half of the table pretty much went exactly as I had expected. Quite glad, but not surprised that non of the relegation-battle teams won.

It's now more crucial than ever that we beat 'Boro!

I think given how much is riding on the Boro-Newcastle match in terms of either team winning, it has a draw written all over it :p

Didn't Barton have a suspended ban handed to him? I'm nearly positive if he was sent off again he would be banned for a certain length of time, was it seven games?

I want Hull to win purely for the 6 point gap it will give them to Newcastle. I can't see Newcastle going down now because Sunderland won't get another point this season from the games they have left.

Which is why I was hoping they would pick something up against Everton.

I'm as desperate to see Newcastle go down as the next person but what kind of Everton fan are you supposed to be? If we can snatch 5th then that's an extra 500k in the bank which lets face it we're gonna need.

Yer, I know this doesn't get the same kind of exposure as the Premier League.
The Blue Square Premier is usually just a footnote and then quite often totally missed out.

Anyway, earlier today Cambridge overcame a 1-3 first leg loss to win 3-0 after extra time in the second leg.
That sends us back off to Wembley for the second season running in an attempt to bring back league football to our fair city.

Last year we just didn't turn up and Exeter went on to win promotion.
This year, hopefully Cambridge will realise that they have only got half the job done by getting to Wembley and now they have to play their hearts out for 90 minutes to win it.
Unfortunately I was unable to go last year (I was in hospital at the time), so the last time I saw Cambridge in a play-off final, Dion Dublin won it for us!

Anyway, just wanted to post something.
There is a million miles between the likes of MUFC, Chelsea, Liverpool and the "grass roots" of English football.
A 3-0 victory over Stevenage and a final Vs Torquay is "our" Champions League final run-in :)
Exeter fan here in peace!

Congrats on your second leg win, what a dramatic end with Scott Rendell grabbing a late goal - can't believe how far he's come from his FGR days, thought he wasn't that great when I saw him play there.

I went to the final last season and thought your lot actually played ok - your fans were superb as well. We knew what it felt like having lost to Morecambe the previous year and all of your fans that I spoke to afterwards were very gracious in defeat. Hope you manage to do the Turks in the final although they've got some dangerous players to watch out for. Not sure how Wayne Carlisle's doing this season but I know a lot of our fans were disappointed we let him go last summer.

What a great weekend for ourselves as well!! Everyone wrote us off at the start of the season but we've proved a lot of people wrong and have played some superb football along the way.

Can't believe we'll be playing the likes of Norwich, So'ton and Charlton in the league next season - it seems like a dream!

Anyway, all the best for the final :)

Because it's the fans fault and I want to see 35,000 fat geordies crying like girls on the final day of the season. I've seen bigger clubs than newcastle go down, when people said they were too big to drop.

I was only asking so you'd say Newcastle were a big club. ;)
