Because he didn't see the foul and gave Utd the advantage. Still doesn't get away from the fact that it was an Elbow and he should have been carded for it simple as that

Ref got it wrong simple as that. Like he got the Evra booking wrong just then
 
No place for sportsmanship at Chelsea apparently.

I'm sorry but if the ball is put out everytime a player stays down it would be hard to get a decent game of football going. It's up to the referee to stop play if he deems the injury serious enough to warrant it.

The rules say intent is enough and he certainly intended to clatter into Ballack just then.

This has been the best Charity/Community Shield in years :D

Are refs psychic now then? It was a tough challenge but you can't possibly say he was going for Ballack, he got the ball, that is the fact.

Its intent if he makes no play for the ball. As he clearly got the ball it's not entirely true what you say BaZ
