Weekend Football Thread *spoilers*

Just saw the Gerrard dive, much worse than Eduardo's :(. The media really do suck.

Indeed, the Daily Mail has been doing this 'Dive Watch' thing. They highlight the Pompey one but conveniently forgot to mention Gerrard's. Just Like MOTD conveniently forgot to mention it. Sickening how crap like this is treated just because he's English, if that had been Ronaldo there would have been a witch hunt and a call for foreign players to be banned from English football.

Dunno how the pundits can live with themselves, criticising foreigners whenever they can and not choosing to say a word about Gerrard, very hard to take as a viewer

Odd because every time I check the BBC Premiership page they appear to be blatantly sucking up to Man Utd  Admittedly they had the audacity to run a headline story about Jimmy Bullard for a couple of hours today but that was quickly replaced by some dross about bit part United squad players being injured.
Last week and even all weekend despite a full Premiership fixture list the main premiership page story was United 2 Spurs 0, not even a prem game ;)

Evans and O'Shea are hardly bit part players

And the reason it's in the news is because we have a match tomorrow with 1/2 fit defenders, that's kind of news.

I wish I had that huge nail on the head picture that I saw in GD the other day because I'd stick it here. :D

It's not the only thing that English players of many sports get away with either. As you say there if it were Ronaldo we'd have an entirely different situation. Same with the character assassination of Eduardo, even though it was said there was not enough proof that he dived he is still a "diver".

Also the same can be said of the Wenger V Huges thing. Hughes is a British manager and almost every article I read about it in newspapers they were lining up to shoot Wenger down calling him this that and the other when they conveniently forgot to mention that Hughes swaggered into Wenger's technical area shouting obscenities at him.

Like Wenger said at the end of the game in the interview, he had been in charge for 500 matches and shook hands 497 times. :)

Maybe we should organise a mass mailing to MOTD pointing out Gerrards dive :D

It won't be the first and it won't be the last time he or other pro's do it. Until the punishment for diving is the same if not more severe than a professional foul then it will never be deterred.

He also shook hands with Mark Bowen (the Assistant Manager) so his issue was with Hughes, not with losing as the papers will have you believe.

I saw Hughes' mouth going on TV, I couldn't tell what he was saying but I could tell it was disgusting. That's fine though. Just make sure you shake hands, it gives you the right to be a total moron for the 90 minutes :/

Automatic red and three match ban for simulation with no appeal (unless contact is proven) would stop the diving instantly

.....pity it will never come into force

Personally I have no gripes with Wenger not shaking Hughes hand, Hughes has turned into a complete and utter ******* since managing in the premiership. As a player I have nothing but respect for the guy but as a manager he shows so much unfounded arrogance and since taking over at Man City, it's gone to his head. He shouldn't have ran across like he did and basically push the throw in a further 10 yards up the pitch right in front of Wenger. That in itself, running out of his technical area and across right in front of Wenger to speed up the throw in as if him and his team were more up for the match and then swearing at him was extreme arrogance and poor behaviour.

Haven't heard or read anything sport related for a few days, until about an hour ago when it came on the radio in the car. Only a fiver on it.

Well if you made it now, at least you get better odds than if they were fit.

3/1 for Man Utd to win
5/2 draw
11/10 Wolfsburg win

It won't be the first and it won't be the last time he or other pro's do it. Until the punishment for diving is the same if not more severe than a professional foul then it will never be deterred.

Nevertheless, public humiliation goes a long way.
