Weekend Football Thread *spoilers*

Either way World Class is just a term and it doesn't really matter wether they even play for their national team or not in my opinion. A good point was raised earlier in the thread about players from lesser footballing nations playing for their country. It doesn't make them World Class by just being picked first for their country.

It's a word thrown about way too often imo.

Nope, I've not said that starting for your national side makes you world class.

The best players, from any country will make the national side, then of those international players some are better then others ect ect

Johnson (Sheffield Wednesday) makes his national side. He's not as good as Ronaldo. You're not automatically a world class player for getting in to your national side. You're world class when you're considered the best player in the world in that position.

If you're one of the best players in the world in that postition, why would other people be taking your national team place?

You can also look at that in other ways, Tummy. For instance Fabregas is playing in a different type of position to what he would be chosen for in the Spanish national team. Add to that Iniesta and Xavi who are a quality partnership, playing week in and week out then you don't really need Fabregas to enter the mix too often, maybe as an impact sub, but this is just the case in Spain because they already have those two excellent midfielders.

If he played for Barcelona then maybe it would be different, maybe, although nobody can say that for sure. What we can say is that I think most people who watch and enjoy football would say that Fabregas is a great talent and can change games when he's in the right playing mood. He's mostly consistent, only rarely having a bad game and I don't think it's fair to judge him based on how frequently he plays for Spain or not.

That would be like having a team with Rooney and Torres up front and then saying why doesn't Drogba play more often.

Because WORLD CLASS does not mean you are the BEST. Spain have MORE than two WORLD CLASS midfield players in the same position. What dont you understand about that? Other people in here think Fab is world class and they arent Arsenal fans. Most football pundits think he is world class but I guess everyone could be wrong and you right

Yes he is an Arsenal player and im an Arsenal fan but he is just as example that you can still be classed as world class without starting in your nation first 11.

Does Tummy mean the starting 11, or the first team?

He means first 11

Well.....if Fabregas can't get into the Spain team it's normally because Xavi/Iniesta/Alonso are in the team, which by default means he can't be 'World Class' because he can't even get into his National side.

If he was 'World Class' he would be in there over Alonso Shirley?

Iniesta and Xavi are better players then Fab and as such they get in to the national team ahead of him. Thats not a bad thing for Fab, Iniesta and Xavi are two of the best center mids in the World right now.

Doesn't or it shouldn't matter who you play for domestically. The best players will be picked, you don't for example pick your best midfielder and then leave him on the bench in a national side.

I think Fabregas is a wonderful player, but he's only young, he'll get better.

They don't play for the same country, But it would suggest that Rooney and Torres are better then Drogba ;) If Drgoba was better he'd be the first choice.

:D

There can be a couple of world class center mids, Iniesta and Xavi.
If Fabregas was as good as you're saying he is, wouldn't he be playing over them?

It's a daft argument. The best players are picked. Xavi and Iniesta are better then Fabregas, if Fab was better then them, he would get picked over them.

You're World Class, but not as World Class as these other players that are better then you.

He means first 11

First team.

I don't really know how to reply to that. You seem to be implying that because Xavi and Iniesta are higher up in Spain's pecking order then they are both better than Fabregas?

Now, I'm not going to be some kind of rampant Arsenal fanboy because this is applicable to other players from other countries too, but just because a player is picked ahead of another doesn't instantly make them better or worse. What I'd say is that Iniesta and Xavi are both excellent, Fabregas is also excellent, but when you have 3,4 even 5 GREAT midfielders like Spain do, there is hardly much to choose between them. So why not choose the two that have the best chemistry and are familiar with each others thoughts and movements?

If you have 4 or 5 "world class" players in one postition for one national side you pick the better players, you'd take in to consideration the chemistry.

Iniesta and Xavi are both wonderful gifted footballers, Fab is a gifted footballer but he's only a nipper. It's no great shame to be 3/4 choice behind Iniesta and Xavi, just means or it should mean that it gives Fab the drive and motivation to improve and take one of those places.
