* weekend football thread *

I dont care what critics say about United fielding a weaker team I think its well within their right to. Plus i love watching people like Macheda and Wellbeck play because they can sometimes come up with really creative stuff

It's also worth remembering that even if the big stars were to play, it's tough to predict what kind of attitude they would have.
I mean, the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Vidic etc know they will play in Rome.
But they know they will only play if fit.
So it would be understandable for them to not give 100% @ the risk of missing the game.
But players like Macheda have nothing to lose.
In fact they have everything to gain by impressing.

I know what you mean - but I dont think it will make that much difference to Kiko or Welbeck - there is even a slim chance that one of them will be on the bench in Rome anyway, depending on formation we play against Barca (I would guess Ronaldo up top with Rooney and Park being the wide forwards, so Tevez and Berba would make the bench, but you never know)

Some of the younger kids who havent yet played an EPL match should definitely work their cahones off though

Still hope for Hull to have too much for them though. It will be interesting to see who SAF plays - especially at the back where we dont have that many covering players fit if the worst happens during the final (Fabio I think is injured, Wes Brown hasnt played competitively for months, and Rafael probably has to be available just in case in Rome, and Jonny Evans is carrying an injury too I think so OShea has to be ready in case Rio doesnt make it)

lol @ the papers this morning

Apparently the teams that get relegated this weekend will be prepared to sue us if we don't field a full strength side. They do know we can field whatever team we want don't they? Idiots

Paragraph E20 of Premier League rules states: “In every league match each participating club should field a full strength team.”

Of course the defintion of "full strength" is entirely open for interpretation.

Ooooh

I did not know that! Ooo err, that could make it a bit tricky then. Still, surely in a case where the league is already won and we're in a major final, the FA would see sense?

I'm not sure whether that was a joke or not, but it's still funny. The FA see sense? You've got more chance of Sepp Blatter supporting an English team.

I think there is a similar rule for the champs league, it comes up every time someone has qualified already after 3 - 4 group games. Full strength does not mean strongest so i don't see how any of the clubs have a leg to stand on. The whole Sheff Utd / Tevez thing has opened up a can of worns with sueing, clubs should just accept that if they are duking it out to stay up on the last game of the season its no ones fault but their own.

When I saw that quoted post I thought along similar lines :D

Anyway Rio has to prove his fitness (according to SAF) to play in the final, Fletcher will play and PIG and possibly Ronaldo (for golden boot)

Still think it would be impossible to sue but with those playing I dont think anyone can really argue
