* weekend football thread *

Everton frequently get in the top 6 and in consecutive years..ie holding their own with pretty meagre income. They certainly deserve it more than Newcastle , fraid your view kinda falls down right there ;)

Eh?!? Frequently?! Up until 5 years ago they were scraping to stay in the Premiership!

Btw - I know Newcastle are a **** poor excuse for a team, but our home form is one of the worst in the league and we've won 1 in 11. Pathetic form and it's pretty much a meaningless game for us. Draw written all over it.

Ask arsenal fans it's only the last 4 years that count ;)

Anyway we stuck with a manager that almost got us relegated and we have reaped the benefits of having a stable base to work from. Very very rarely did you hear of any fans calling for moyes head even when we finished 17th and sold rooney.

Year on year he has pushed us forward and made our position stronger in the right half of the table. Even at the start of this year we were in or just off the relegation. No one paniced and Moyes didn't chuck his toys out the pram and quit.

Without a billionaire we wont win a title or even last 5 minutes in the champions league, luckily we have realistic fans that realise this. We accept and know without bankrupting the club we can't expect higher than 5th and to get fourth someone (rafa ;) ) has had a shocker.

In all honesty I think it's down to Hull and Newcastle to fight for that final safe spot.

Sunderland are pretty much safe, it would take a seriously freak turn of events for them to get relegated. The same for 'Boro to stay up.

I can't see us (Newcastle) getting a win at Villa but I think a draw is quite likely. Equally I can't see Hull winning or getting a draw but it's always a possibility.

No Newcastle fans called for the head of Robson (despite consecutive 11th placed finished- not really that bad I understand), only towards the end of his regime did a minority as it looked like he had lost the dressing room.

Only a minority of fans called for Allardyce to be sacked, probably less than the amount of Man U fans who wanted to sack Ferguson. The fans were even singing Allardyce's name at Stoke.

No-one got on Keegan's back when he was here.

No-one called for Roeder to be sacked.

Souness was crap, turned Robson's team to **** in a matter of months.
Dalglish was crap, turned Keegan's team to **** in a matter of months.

The fans will stick with Shearer for as long as he wants as well.

I seem to remember an awful lot of Allardyce out chants, including those pictures of everyone leering at him, screaming "You don't know what you're doing!" etc..

There's been far too much slating of fans going on recently, please respect the few rules we have in place about this from now:)

Yeah, Allardyce seemed to be slated for playing players out of position and playing crap football like his Bolton days, the fans seemed to hate him

3 or 4 times in the last 4 years I would say is both ;)

:p

That was pretty much it although I don't think the fans had that much bearing on Ashley getting rid of him.

Ashley wanted his own man in place who could act as his little minion ala continental clubs. He thought he could get a bigger, better name in to do the job and got a shock when no-one wanted to touch us with a barge-pole.

Yeah, two blokes.

As I said a minority, always at home games as a result more ***** being there.

As I said probably less than how many wanted Ferguson out.

This weekend is going to be interesting from a Utd perspective. No doubt Ferguson will play his second string with the likes of Scholes, Neville, PIG, Gibson etc.

Now if we get beat I can almost see the back pages of the Newcastle evening chronicle saying we had a duty to go to Hull with a full strength team. In reality why should we though. Teams like Newcastle and Hull would not be in this position if their results were different.

Putting it another way what if our last game was against West Brom and they were already down. In essence a nothing game for either of us. We could play a weakened team and nobody would say a word. I don't think we should risk players for the champions league final just to appease the Hacks from the red tops and local papers

I for one am not going to blame United for us getting relegated if Hull get a point/win.

You don't have a duty to us to win, you should really be doing it for yourselves. :p

Indeed and I think that Ferguson will want to put out a side to win anyway. Our result could be by and large useless if you don't do better than them anyway
