I've just re-wound my sky+ to watch the full incident again and not once does the ref signal it was a goal so how did they make him change his mind? He was probably always going to ask the linesman...

I'm going by the radio so apologies if they're not saying it as it actually happened. Even now, BBC Radio is suggesting he blew and signalled for a goal.

Ah right ok :). He did blow his whistle but not for the goal and he didn't signal at all from what I saw.
