Weight gain stuff

Think of protein, carbs or fat as colories or energy. Consume too much of any food source (more than you use up for energy) and you will gain fat.

Also remember:
Protein contains 4 calories per gram.
Carbohydrates contain 4 calories per gram.
Fat contains 9 calories per gram.

No quite mate. Fat = 7 calories/gm, Alcohol = 9 calories/gm

Although i did read once that fat had 9. Then i checked with my friend who is a GP and specialises in sports/nutritional health. :)

Chronic i agreed with your earlier statement about making your own weight gainer and what to use. Good call dude. BUT, i need to expand a little on our theory on excess protein acting as weight gain. Sure, the extra calories will sit on the body, as fat (like you said). But you're just as likely to crap it out as it will be unused. Lol, its also a hell of an expensive way to gain weight, and i'm not sure it would do some of your organs too much good by bombarding them with far more aminos than they can assimiliate. Too much of certains aminos can have negative effects on the body, ie. heart and kidney probs :(

I think you've got your alcohol and fat calories the wrong way around: Wiki.

Agree with the rest of your post though :)

hmmm......... if my knowledgeable friend is wrong i'd be surpised. But i'll bow to the majority, ok 9 it is then :D (for fat)

Thanks for correcting me without making me feel a comlete t!t :)

just a weird random question but do you have to put on fat before you can put on muscle

No, you can't turn fat into muscle. Bodybuilding is a never ending battle of gaining muscle and keeping bodyfat down to a healthy minimum.

Having said that, "bulking" will give you strength gains for heavier lifts.

So my skinny girly wrists will one day get bigger if i stick with the gym?

There is just no chance of me putting any fat on them because if i gain any weight at all its always around my stomach

Your wrists won't get any bigger no matter how often you go to the gym but your arms certainly will ;)

Having small wrists/joints is no bad thing by the way :)

Mammoth Grow is a very good weight gainer supp if your struggling.

Last year it was really useful during my exam period at uni...I was working at least 5 (usually 8) a day, and then studying, didn't have much time for cooking so brought some Mammoth Grow.

While you can build a similar weight gainer shake (or even meal ;)) yourself for much cheaper, if your after convienience (spelling?) and have a little cash to burn, then the MG2500 is great.

EDIT: I was only taking half the recommend serving (2 scoops), the full serving (iirc 4) was too much for me.

Listen, really don't go buying these products please just make your own.

Get yourself over to myprotein.co.uk and get some protein, i can give you the code to get almost 5KGs for £23. Pick yourself up some ultra fine scottish oats, which come in at £2.75 a kilo and as chong warrior says add some peanut butter or you could get yourself a bottle of flax oil and add this to the shake.

either way this will be better as you know exactly what's going into it and will work out so much cheaper and to be honest, will probably taste better.

Sort yourselves out and don't be ripped of by this carp.

wow!

whats so good about these oats? tesco value oats are 48p/kilo, which is what i get, and they have the exact same nutritional value as tesco scottish porridge oats which are 68p/kilo, which is still a lot cheaper then those 'ultra fine' oats lol

Blimey, your'e easily pleased :p

I thought Francis Benfatto looked damned good......for a veggie!

S7yl3s: is the myprotein stuff any good then? I've checked them out before, but never actually bought anything. Whats the taste like for the various flavours? Is it grainy? Is it quality protein?
If so, then your idea with the oats i think is a good one.

I just use a food processor myself along with some 50p/kg oats from asda.

so having a few bowls of porridge with some protien powder in would do the exact same thing weight gainers do?. Ive been using mamoth 2500 for a bit now but i cant stand the taste any longer so i was looking for an alternative. It works out at £30 for just over 4kg which i didnt think was too bad tbh.

I bought my usual supplies today and included oats in them this time.
However when i had the shake, i blended some oats into dust and added them.

I think its done more harm than good, its swelled in my stomach and i now dont feel i want any dinner. Infact i feel damn sick.
Have i bought the wrong stuff? Just simple oats the same as an porridge.

Right this shouldn't be a problem. I buy ultra fine scottish oats off myprotein and they are fantastic. What sort out amount of oats did you put in? if you put a lot on you could have easily had over 100g of carbs and this will make you feel bloated and like you're really full up.
