OK....

quick stats...I'm around 6'2 tall but I weigh like 25 stones...

On the bus to work this morning, a young girl, sitting there with her mother watched me walk past to a seat and then turned to the mother and said loudly "mummy, why is that man so fat?" The mother told the child to keep quiet and that it was rude to say things like that...but the child then said "but mummy, he's the fatest man I've seen!"

Anyway, I spent the rest of the journey feeling like everyone was looking at me....I even got off a stop early to get away from them...

Now I have battled being overweight ever since I was like 5 years old...and I've done weight watchers, where my weight kept yoyoing week to week. I did a 9 month stint at the gym, which left me weighing the same and in fact I managed to tear a muscle in my right shoulder (which I've been told will be a lifelong source of discomfort.

I've tried smaller portions, I've tried cutting out bad food...I've tried pot noodle diets, salad diets...nothing seems to work

I felt pretty bad so I rushed out at lunch to my local healthfood shop and bought a pack of diet pills - Hydroxycut Advanced to be precise. Spending £40 on something made me feel a little better (retail therapy) but now I wonder if I might as well have eaten my money (like I evidently eat everything else to be the biggest man she's seen).

So anyway, get-it-off-my-chest completed....

Any suggestions? anyone used this pill or know someone who has with good/bad results? any suggestions for other pills/fads/diets/whatever?

thanks
fatest man...

I haven't heard of those pills, but I lost nearly 3 stone on Alli.

A word of warning though, whilst they do genuinely work, they can have some side effects. The main was is the possibility of ****ing yourself if you eat too much fat. The other is possible anxiety.

fads?diets?pills?

you just need to use more energy than you eat and it is as simple as that.

i recommend the sports arena section of the forum as there are lots of people who are trying to do similar in there and lots who have managed it

Think of the extra calories you burnt getting of one stop earlier!

Anyway, just eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly, it's as simple as that!

google it, there are lots of people that use it out there. its not the best way to do it and it really wont make any difference.

Exercise and a good diet is what you want, coupled with goals and motivation.

I would say speak to a doctor about one of the newer surgeries, but tbh I dont think that deserve it free on the nhs yet, you need to make an effort to lose first.

remember - there is no magic pill (that can be bought off a shelf).

I'm sorry but i lol'd hard at that :o

at 25 stone i'd imagine he's too fat to have surgery safely.

I'm really sorry to hear that, it sounds terrible. However, post in the Sport & Fitness section and there are plenty of very qualified people who will give you dietary and exercise guidance, and who have helped people like you out :)

Nothing like passing oil lol, been there done that :D.

Also very addictive and made me very paranoid so knocked them on the head sharpish!

The lighter life diet is apparently quite good.. it's quite expensive but I have seen/heard great results from it. You should consult your GP before going on it though. You also get a kind of diet "coach" who you can call and they help you if it gets tough.

I speak from experience on this, but its no good just attacking it from one direction. Eating better will help massively but its not going to do much without exercise at the same time.

Its very much a mindset as well, you want to have to do it cause its not an easy road to travel and it takes strength to not only carry on with it but get back on that treadmill (or what ever you choose to do, for me its running).

there's a whole wealth of information in the gym section.

I know this is easy to say and not easy to practice but firstly dont worry too much about what children say, They too are subject to seeing mainly small people ie. school (all children) and tv (mainly stick thin presenters) and I could tell you multiple stories of how children have embarrassed myself or someone else.
My brother called a lady dressed in green for a wedding the 'Jolly Green Giant'
My cousin told an old man not to worry about being tired as he will be dead soon....

As for the tablets, do watch what is going into them, Most of them contain ingredients that will just make you feel fuller quicker, some include laxatives and some can be much worse.
If you have tried exercise and cutting back on foods maybe you should see your GP, and especially before you start taking tablets.

Also be careful of cheaper diet pills, I felt like id been drugged when I 'tried' them very briefly. When I do take them I use Adios and I feel they work, but many say they dont. I also have a slimfast milkshake for dinner (Vanilla flavour is nice) and it should be (will be) teamed with exercise.

Sorry, is there a better forum? Any mods can move?

My current diet (weekday)....
Breakfast - Never
Lunch - generally a cheese sandwich or a caesar wrap
Dinner - Usually something like cottage pie, chicken breast with "healthy" oven chips and veg or pasta in out-of-jar sauce
Liquids - a mix of flavoured bottle water or watered-down cordial....maybe a can of coke if I'm feeling it

Like I said, I've tried the whole going to the gym...I was going 3 times a week for an hour at a time, while also trying to watch what I ate. As I said, 9 months later I had lost nothing and gained a life-long injury.
