weight issues, diet pills and a general get-it-off-your-chest-moment

Sorry, is there a better forum? Any mods can move?

My current diet (weekday)....
Breakfast - Never
Lunch - generally a cheese sandwich or a caesar wrap
Dinner - Usually something like cottage pie, chicken breast with "healthy" oven chips and veg or pasta in out-of-jar sauce
Liquids - a mix of flavoured bottle water or watered-down cordial....maybe a can of coke if I'm feeling it

Like I said, I've tried the whole going to the gym...I was going 3 times a week for an hour at a time, while also trying to watch what I ate. As I said, 9 months later I had lost nothing and gained a life-long injury.
Lots of evil carbs .

Life long? Doubtful, get a referral and have it looked at properly.

Diet - drop the amount of carbs, HAVE breakfast!
flavoured water is generally PACKED full of sugar, coke? full fat? :(

At 25st that cannot be all you eat unless your portion sizes are massive.

1 thing that would help you would be a food log.
Write down everything you eat and how much for a week.

Life is too short to worry, im sure your a complete dude skinny or fat :)

The only way to lose weight safely and keep it off is to maintain a healthy, balanced diet and a regular exercise program.

Head over to sports arena and im sure they'll be more than willing to help design you a program for fitness and suggest LOADS of low calorie but super healthy meals and snacks :)

Best of luck dude, I really need to lose a stone or 2 and get back in shape :(

You shouldn't be skipping breakfast for a start. No fruit?

I know I know...but I get up at 5:30 to get to my London job so I've loathed to get up even earlier to fit in breakfast

I'm awful with the whole 5-a-day thing...the closest I've come is when someone bet me to eat 3 chocolate oranges....something I dont advise:p

Is this your "trying to lose weight" diet or just your day to day diet?

I wouldnt bother with diets as such, healthy eating is easy to do but it takes time to adjust to the change. This can be cutting down on things like sugar in your tea and bad fatty foods. Also Exercise is the key, check out a guy online called John Stone read his blogs and see how far he came from what he used to be like. He also lists all the things he did and ate to get how he is now. Great read and its life changing.

I'm also a fatty mate, and had quite the same "revelatory" moment when I was at my biggest: I walked out into the back garden and the neighbours' kid was playing with some friends. From atop their slide they could see me over the fence, and one of the friends exclaimed "Wow! That is a FAT man!"

I've never felt so humiliated, to be honest.

Right then, I decided to do something about it. I haven't stressed myself or given up junk entirely, but I took to exercising and have dropped around 2 stone in a couple of years. I know, a couple of years is a long time to do that, but that's been on and off the wagon.

At the start of the year my wife joined Slimming World. That, coupled with her regularly gym/swimming pool visits has allowed her to drop about 4 stone since this January. I stick roughly to the eating plan (though I'm a bit too much of a lush when it comes to the booze - my only major stick in the spokes) but haven't been exercising as much due to shinsplints and a few gout attacks.

I will say, though, that running a mile a day on the treadmill while I continued to drink, but ate on Slimming World principles, I dropped about 10lbs in four weeks.

Now that I haven't touched the treadmill or destroyed myself on EA Sports Active like I used to regularly, I find my weight yo-yoing week to week; 3lbs lost, 2 gained, 2 lost, 3 gained, 4 lost etc. etc. It's really trickling off...but exercise is the key.

You can't just sit on your butt eating diet pills and hope it's going to work. It isn't. You can eat PLENTY of delicious food and still lose weight. You just need to know what to eat.

If you want to talk about anything or want some more info from the wife etc., my email's in trust.

I wouldn't recommend any 'diets'. What I would recommend is a change of lifestyle.

It's a simple equation of calories in need to be less than calories out/expended.

If you can calculate a diet plan (diet doesn't need to be low calories) just healthy options that you can stick to then all you need to do is move more. If you can cope with eating less calories than your BMR (basic metabolic rate) then you don't even need to do any extra exercise to start shifting weight though I would highly recommend it for the health benefits.

Post up your diet for us to look over, plenty of us here will be happy to help.

I'd recommend starting a journal to log your progress/feelings and also to allow us to encourage you. DarkShadow and Tom_e and many others in SA have made fantastic progress and I'm sure will be happy to offer you advice and their experiences.

Edit: Are you being honnest with your current diet you posted? Including all snacks and alcohol? If so all you'll need to do is spend 30-40 minutes on the crosser trainer and it'll be melting off you.

Are you still 'gaining' weight, or has your gain stagnated at 25stone?

Burn more calories than you consume, your body has no option but to use up stored fat. I know it’s easy for me to say that but there must be some catalyst in your diet.

As above Benny C - has explained very clear!

I too am on the long road to losing weight. The biggest hurdle is not deciding to do it, nor planning how to do it. It is sticking with it!

Working from home made it far too easy for me to indulge whenever I was peckish. I have packed that in. I have breakfast. A sensible lunch and dinner. If I am hungry in between I go for a banana or an apple.

I don't drive, so I tend to walk to a lot of places. I also enjoy cycling so bought a new bike not long ago and try to go out on it at least once or twice a week. With excerise it really helps if you enjoy the activity. I dislike going to the gym, so it's a chore. I like riding a bike, so becomes something I enjoy that is good for me.

I am not doing anything special, but it appears to be working as some people have commented that I look slimmer! :)

Concerning the bus incident, I'd have been tempted to say "I'm this big because I just ate the last kid who was rude!" :p
