weight issues, diet pills and a general get-it-off-your-chest-moment

Well what I mean is thats what I eat per day at the moment...I'm sure my diet that got me to 25st was a lot worse...

full fat coke all the way...I might as well drink pee instead of diet coke.

Not to worry then, you should start loosing weight on the diet you posted as I think even I would do! Portion sizes arn't really specified, but assuming they are fairly typical it isn't a huge amount of intake.

To speed it up you might consider swapping some of the carbs for vegetables. Mabye change the cheese sandwich to tuna and cucumber or similar, preferably home-made. The coke could be changed for pure orange juice or apple jiuce or similar, yes it'll still have quite a lot of sugar but at least it'll help you towards 5-a-day. Try to have a breakfast cereal, something like cheerios, weetabix or cornflakes.

There is no substitute for exercise and healthy eating.

I would give the Pot Noodle diet a miss though.

This is the ultimate truth, eat small amounts regularly (every 4-6hours) eat plenty of protein, cut down on Carbs, eat wholemeal and slow burning carbs where possible.

Exercise, regualrly. even if its only 20 minutes a day, do it.

I have lost 3.5 stone since July, and I was heavier than you.

stick with meats, fish, veggies, fruit and nuts with exercise and you'll be golden

go shopping and get yourself a load of meat (all can be frozen, get it out the day before and GG), fish, eggs, nuts (unsalted/roastd almonds/wallnuts), wraps, rice, sweet potatoe, and vegetables such as broccoli, peppers, asparagus... mushrooms, onion etc for extra flavour.

chicken takes minutes to cook with rice and veggies... tub some for your dinner the next day

The diet you posted, is that your "lose weight diet" or just your day to day diet?

That is pretty much my "loose weight" diet....

For an idea of my old habits...like when I was unemployed for a year a few years ago. I would get up and eat something like 3 fried egg sandwiches with ketchup......go sit about watching tv or playing a console. Then eat a LARGE (we're talking 250-ish grams) bowl of pasta with cheese on....and eat whatever the family was for dinner. plus snacking inbetween, which in my defense would have been fruit or maybe some raw mushrooms or carrots or something! plus that was all washed down with full-fat coke, the only thing I drank back then.

So you can see that I am trying to change...its just that it doesnt seem to do anything.

If the diet you posted up is the one your using at the moment to try and loose weight then I know this sounds strange but it looks like far too little food for a guy of your size. The number one problem a lot of people have when they start trying to loose weight is an all or nothing mentality, you cannot expect your body and mind to go from lots of food and no exercise to no food and exercise it'l make you resent what your doing because its a hell of a mental struggle.
Take what you would normally eat and start cutting some carbs out like chips/rice/pasta/potatoes and replace them with a good serving of veg, then as your body gets used to it start cutting portion sizes, then taking snacks out and so on.
As for exercise start off slow maybe getting off the bus a stop earlier and walking the rest, then maybe going out for an extra walk whenever you can fit one in.
The after that find out what you enjoy be it running, cycling, swimming, lifting weights whatever as long as its an activity you enjoy. For instance I hate running with a passion therefore there was no point in me ever trying to base a weight loss and fitness routine on it, but I love weight lifting and cycling so they became my main exercises.

Ahh I see, I thought that was your diet before hand. I know from experience how much it takes to eat to get to 23stone, which was my heaviest weight which I'm close to again which sucks.

Being off work is one of the worst things that happened to me for my weight.

I would love to change my weight too, I know exactly how to do it as well which is why I don't understand why I don't do it. I'll start and stop diets now within a week, I don't have the long term commitment to it like I have done in the past.

it does take a lot yes...but its not like I just put this weight on suddenly. its been building for the last 20-odd years!

I mean, in year 7 I was around 8 stone...by year 11 I was 16 stone....I hit 19 stone about 5 years ago...and now its up to 25 or so

Even going for a 20-30 minute walk is a good start for some cardio. A walk, not a stroll, move with some pace/intent.

Not quite so enjoyable with the current weather but in the summer it'll be much more enjoyable.

Also you can reward yourself for your progress as you need to enjoy life! Though when your mindset switches and you make progress you'll be very aware of the negative benefits of your 'rewards' so wont go OTT with them.

Seriously. Take control. MONITOR your intake. Stop eating the portions you are. Don't rely on anyone to cook/feed you. It's your responsibility to watch what your eating. And it's as simple as limiting yourself to 1800 calories a day. You'll see weight noticably coming off over each week. You don't have to massively change your diet. Just monitor your calorie intake and start taking multi-vitamins. Goto Boots or wherever and buy a few packs. And also Magnesium, it helps break down and effectively use the vitamins you're intaking.

DONT STRUGGLE WITH A DRASTIC DIET CHANGE. Just limit the calories and take vitamins. I can end this by saying; I'm a doctor - and I can't tell my patients this information as it's against the guidelines. But when you're 20+ stone this will GREATLY improve your health and drop some weight.

If he is used to 3000+kcal a day then a drop to 1800 is bad.
Needs to be a progressive drop so that the body gets used to it and accepts it better.

Wow. Surely as a doctor you know to get l the facts first, maybe you should read all of the ops posts here :p

Drinks lots of water too. Haven't drunk anything but recently and already seen so many benefits (though I'm not on a drastic weight loss, just body fat for "cutting).

I found I lost the most weight (a few years back) not by going on a diet but by reducing my portion size ever so slightly, going for reduced fat products (so still ate crisps now and again etc), and working out three times a week.

Join a gym and get them to put together a workout plan.

Honestly you will drop the weight pretty quickly with all the advice in this thread!

try low carb, I eat loads and loose weight...

almost 21kg in 3 to 4 months now, feel great, have more energy and eating loads of salad stuff seems to stop my getting the stinkey atkins diet breath...

Personally I'd advise Swampyseifer at the moment to forget about any sort of radical diet changes and not to over think things, just switch to good wholemeal brown carbs, smaller portions, more veg and water. Along with some gentle exercise.
I made the mistake when I first started of over thinking things and wanting to try all the magical sounding things like keto diets and various other quick fix sounding things and its not a good way to go, you just end up confused and lost in the middle of different things.

forgot to add its not in the slightest bit hard to stick to my low carb diet and I dont get hungery or crave anything

however I dont count the carbs I jsut strictly dont eat any high carb food, if im hungery I will eat as much of my low carb snacks as I want regardless if it happens to add up to a load of carbs...

I found it easy personally - obviously everyone is different,

the only thing that it took me a few weeks to realise was rather that a strict atkins diet I needed a massive ammount of salad to cut off any cravings (eg 1/3 a letice with other leaf stuff and bits.. -add meat and source and its lush... I mean I really look forward to dinner... )
