weight issues, diet pills and a general get-it-off-your-chest-moment

Just another little post to say that I bought a pair of jeans last weekend...they were around 12/14 inches smaller round the waist than the smart trousers I bought for my wedding (which was when I was my heaviest)!

Just to say I'm now past the 6 stone lost mark!

Oh and another picture to show even more of my shape change...and yes, MrThingy, I neatened the beard up to save a bit more weight!

Another quick post to say that I am now charging past the 7.5 stone lost mark.

Starting weight 364 pounds (165 kg), current weight 256 pounds (116kg). Difference 108 pounds (49 kg).

its scary to think that I've managed to loose that much weight...its also scary that I'm still considered grossly overweight!

Just want to pass my food intake from yesterday past everyone to see if its still going well.

Breakfast: 30g shredded wheat spoonsize with a splash of skimmed milk
Lunch: 2 vegeburgers with salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, mini pickled onions and sliced pickled gherkin

Dinner: lamb shank with boiled baby new potatoes and forzen veg (sweetcorn, peas, green beans)

Desert: Fat-free yoghurt poured over fresh strawberries

Drinks: 1 can diet coke, 2 litres of sparkling water

I know I need to drink much more, much much more...but I'm just not feeling thirsty. Surely the old adage about if they body needs something it lets you know counts for something? if I really wasnt drinking enough then I'd feel dehydrated/thirsty/get headaches etc?

That's incredible Swampy, congraulations and keep it up.

Sorry if I've missed it, but what is your target weight?

You can see a huge difference in the above photo even though it was 1.5 stone ago! your trousers are soon becoming way too big for your new physique!

Keep it up, you're doing great.

great progress swampy your doing really well!

as ic1male said if you can ditch the sparkling water that might make you feel a lot less full, as the gas can be very bloating.

the diet other then that looked pretty reasonable, possibly even a little low for your overall needs, but as you say, if the body needs something it will let you know.

Keep up the great work

Sorry if I've missed it, but what is your target weight?

My targets keep changing, to start with it was to break the 20st barrier, now I'm aiming to go down to around 16stone...which to me is where, for my height, I should move from being "overweight" to "stocky"! Who knows where I'll go from there, probably loose more weight and get down to a more normal-looking 13/14st?

Well there has already been some discussion in this thread about me drinking sparking water, I do it mainly because I buy cheap flavoured water because I just dont like the flavour of plain water.

It is on my list of things to do tho, get used to drinking plain water!

:eek:Swamp could you please tell us your diet/excersize plan as I'm trying to start losing some weight

Thanks

I wouldnt want to suggest this is the best way, but this is what I've done...

I have pretty much cut out anything pre-processed as well as any sugar/fat heavy foods and drinks. So no micro/frozen meals and obviously avoid things like icecream, cakes, crisps, pies, quiches etc

I pretty much only drink flavoured sparkling water...the occasional diet/zero coke as a treat.

So meals are made with fresh ingredients...plenty of fruit and veg, lots of chicken (with no visible skin/fat), bacon (fat cut off), extra lean mince or soya "meat" although be careful because lots of the vege alternative foods arent that great for you.

Got to watch out for things in breadcrumbs or things in sauces as well.

Pasta/bread/rice is only brown or wholemeal/wholewheat...although I avoid bread when I can.

A very important thing though is to not stop having treats. I still have a takeaway now and then and it was only the other night I munched my way through 100g bag of chocolate mini-eggs! The thing I do to counter it though is to reduce my kcals for a few days after the treat.

As for exercise, it depends what sort of spare time you have, but I work at home twice a week at the moment so I do an hour in the gym on a Monday and Friday and somewhere between 1-2 hours on a Sunday afternoon.

In the gym I start with some simple cardio to get my heart rate up and to warm muscles and stuff...so maybe 10mins cycling. Then i'll do some routines to work my abs (in the vain hope it increases the chance of loosing my gut quicker!) then its on to the weight machines to work my arms, shoulders and back. Then onto an arc trainer (a cross between a step machine and a treadmill) for 5-10 mins, then I use weight machines for legs, then its free hand weights and finish off with at least 10mins on the treadmill.

Thanks for the info how long before you started getting the results?

Well for me I was loosing weight straight away but then I probably was under-eating for the first 6 months or so quite drastically...shortly after this I fell off the wagon, probably because I was being so extreme, put on a bit of weight and had to re-evaluate the whole thing. That is when I started allowing treats now and then and going easier on myself, the weightloss was less drastic per month, but it was stable.

The first thing I noticed is that the solidness of my fatty areas, mainly my gut, started to get flabby and soft which I guess was the fat deposits starting to break down. Then I lost my chins and my face became thinner...my hands became leaner and my fingers less chubby...I then noticed I could see my collarbones...next my ribs started to show although my moobs and gut remained...then I noticed that my thighs were narrower...my love handles came back (yes, I'd gone so far theyd been absorbed into my roundness)...and then it started to reduce my gut and moobs.

Its hard to say how soon it was obvious to other people...only 1 person at work has ever said about me looking thinner, even to this day. Yet my wife says she can see differences everyday.

As for the fitness levels, that took maybe 3 months of gym work before I could really notice that what tired me out normally was now barely making me sweat. The hard thing to get over is being used to not being fit, its like on the treadmill, I used to just walk for 20mins because as far as I was concerned I'd never been able to jog/run without it killing...so I didnt. but one day I thought I would just see what it was like...I now am jogging for 10mins every session and can just about jog 2 miles non-stop when I want to push myself
