weight issues, diet pills and a general get-it-off-your-chest-moment

Its not that you're wasting my time - I can just recognise all the excuses I used to make and it frustrates me!

For arguments sake I'll go with the issue that you simply cant afford to ditch the poor quality food for now. That still leaves the conscious decision you made to drink a can of Cherry coke. You could have had some water, a cup of tea / coffee. It might not sound as nice because you're body is constantly craving sugar, but these are the decisions you need to make. As for the timeout - if you really haven't got 30p for an apple then just dont eat anything for a snack. You don't NEED it, especially as you did have some breakfast.

You have to exercise self discipline with everything you eat. Read the labels and be concious of portion sizes (this will also save you money!)....its all common sense which is actually quite straight forward if you can couple it to self discipline and motivation.

Whilst calorie counting has its flaws, I think you would find it helpful to do for at least a month so you can get a realistic feel for the levels you're eating and what should constitute a normal portion size. If you have an iphone download the Livestrong App which tracks what you eat - I'm sure there are similar ones for all the other phones.

On the plus side, well done on the exercise :)

ok, well I agree the can was unneccesary, as I said several posts ago...and also as I think I have said, that was the first coke I have drunk in 4 days...so thats a major inporvement to me.

as I said before, some of the advice I've been given is that not eating anything can be as bad, if not worse than eating something thats not great for you.....so I thought I was kind of taking the lesser of two evils, but I'm happy to go without. I'm used to feeling hungry cuz of years of not eating till lunchtime! :D

I agree in a previous post that I would start monitoring the portion sizes of what I am logging...so that will come to light tomorrow...

thanks for the well done...and in fact, I'm off to lunch now and was going to do a 40min walk or so. Down goswell road, along bath street to old street and then back up city road again!

No ignore Special K, it's crap. More sugar than non "diet" cereal.

You can make your own muesli in big batches really dirt cheaply - this is a great idea because you can avoid the massive amounts of sugars that off the shelf muesli has - or again porridge is cheap and brilliant (just don't have massive amounts of sugar/syrup with it..).

Sorry chap but having read this thread from the start and watched it develop, all I see from you are excuses.

Essentially what you seem to be saying is: "I have no money at this time for healthy foods. I have a load of unhealthy food in the house. I may as well eat all of it. Why aren't I losing weight?"

Look at this diet of yours:
breakfast: 30g of shop-brand coco pops with skimmed milk
mid-morning: single-finger bar of timeout
lunch: chicken caeser wrap
dinner: cauliflower and broccoli florets with grated cheese and then grilled
drink: 330ml can of cherry coke, 1 litre of shop-brand flavoured water, half pint of very watered-down fruit cordial, bedtime cocoa

- Why eat the timeout bar in the morning? You can go for 2 weeks without food, presumably with the amount of bodyfat you have you could go for even longer, can you not wait until lunch?
- Why have 14 florets of cauliflower and 100g of cheese for dinner? You must surely know that a massive load of cheese doesn't go hand in hand with weight loss?
- Why drink cherry coke, flavoured water and cocoa?

How hard would it be for you to have 9 florets of cauliflower and 50g of cheese? Replace all the sugared drinks with watered-down fruit cordial? Not eat chocolate and cocoa every day? It's not rocket science but you're just ignoring it.

As others have said, you are connected to the internet and thus thousands and thousands of websites containing diet information, yet you're coming up with gems like "I don't really bother about the quantity of food" well sorry but you could find the cleanest and healthiest food in the world and if you eat a 3-man portion of it, you will get fat.

I can appreciate that you are trying to are trying to break out of a lifetime of bad habits but no matter how convincing the excuses you are bringing up may sound to you, we can see right through them.

Tesco Value Oats - 2kg: £1.50.
Tesco Value Sultanas - 500g: £0.64.
Tesco Seedless Raisins - 500g: £1.24.
Tesco Barley - 500g: £0.39.
Hazlenuts - 200g: £2.00.
Whitworth Apricots - 35g: £0.39.

Bake the oats and barley for 10 minutes on a really low light (eg gas mark 3), let it cool, mix everything else in, enough cereal for 2-3 weeks. Total cost for breakfast: £6.16.

To be fair that sort of recipe is just under twice as expensive as 800g of cocoa pops which will last for 26 days.

Would you really say 2kg of oats would only last for 3 weeks? That's 100g of oats every morning, plus all the other stuff!

sorry what?

when did I ask why I wasnt loosing weight? I've never once asked why I'm fat...I know why I'm fat. In fact, I mentioned a few pages ago that I have actually lost half a stone in the last month.

timeout bar - again as I'm sure you know from reading the whole thread, I said several posts ago that I had heard that just not eating at all till lunchtime is bad for you...regardless of whether my choice was good or bad, that was my reason. since then I've made another post, which I'm sure you saw when you read the whole thing, saying that I'm happy to drop that from the daily diet seeing as everyone was so against it.

veg with cheese - who said I had 100g of cheese? I merely stated that I greated some on top and grilled it. I think someone mentioed about my 1cm think slices in the sandwiches being about 100g...

drink - AGAIN in the thread I mentioned how I know that single can of coke that I've had in the last 4 days wasnt neccesary. I dont really have an excuse for the cocoa, its just an old habit of mine to help me get to sleep. Also the whole flavoured water reasoning has been mentioned in SEVERAL posts

it wouldnt be hard to drop 5 florets of veg...and I doubt I even had 50g of cheese, it literally was a few passes over the grater just so I have something other than plain veg for dinner.

If you look at one of my food logs youll see that I did infact drink some heavily watered down cordial on a day. I dont generally take it to work as I just pop a whole litre bottle of the flavoured water in my bag. I really doubt that a bottle of flavoured water is that much more unhealthy than cordial anyway (I'm sure you saw my little nutritional value bit about my water in a previous post).

I never used to eat chocolate everyday...as mentioned above about the timeout...and I wont be after today.

youve taken my "gem" out of context...I havent just given a blanket-suggestion that I wont care about portion sizes.......in fact, yet again in a previous post I said I was going to start writing out the portion sizes on the food logs. As an aside, I thought celery was that clean and healthy that you burned more calories eating it than it contains? so a 3 man portion wouldnt make me fat....tho speaking of suggesting I eat a 3 man portion. You suggested taking the florets from 14 to 9, assuming that my 14 florets was a "3 man portion" you are that a healthy single person would eat just under 5florets?

its good that you are all challenging me every post of the way....its making me think about it all more

keep it up!!

I'm just mentioning my diet - I eat **** loads and have 2 breakfasts, so...

I think people need to chill out a bit, everything isn't as easy as some people in this thread seem to think.
The OP is obviously in a bit of a tight place with cash which means binning all the stuff already in his house and replacing it all with the good stuff both he and we know he should eat isn't feasible until pay day, if people bother to read the whole thread they will see that he is trying and while not totally cutting out bad food is cutting down on it, this is a great way to start it means you don't have that crazy mentality of I'm not allowed it therefore I HAVE to eat it, also switching from liters of coke to watered down squash and flavored water is another step in the right direction.
