Weight loss - Weight bench or exercise bike?

I am currently trying to lose some weight. I have altered my diet and I am doing dumbell exercises every day (1 muscle group a day).

I want to step it up a little bit now but I only have a small budget of about £150.00.

I'm not sure if to get a York weight bench that comes with 40KG worth of weights or to get an exercise bike.

What would be best?

Would a bench be benifical for weight loss then instead of just dumbells? I could do heavier weights with a bench...

This, really.

Dumbell excercises/40KG of BB weights will be pretty useless for any serious lifting. Even if you can only lift that at the moment you will grow out of it very, very quickly.

But I don't want 'serious' lifting, I just want it to help me in losing weight.

I'm REALLY not game for joining a gym yet, I'm a begginer so maybe in a year or so but not quite yet.

What we're trying to tell you here is that lifting light weights won't do anything at all for your weight loss. 10 minutes or so of research in this area will give you a much clearer idea of what you should be doing. Take a look at the bodybuilding sticky at the top of this thread.

Just buy a bike, go for a run and use body weight exercises to give you some strength. Fact is you are starting at the wrong time, winter is hard enough for people that like to run or cycle due to cold, rain, darkness, come March and you should be able to get out almost every day.

Buying a bench or stationary bike is pointless, stationary bikes are boring you have no urge to use them, unlike getting out into the fresh air and exploring new areas and the limited weights and bench you will be wondering what to do next.

Dont waste £150 on a bench or stationary bike, what ever you do.

From what you're saying, I'm guessing the exercises you'd be doing wouldn't be all that fantastic for weight loss.

Supersetting dumbbell curls with some bench press will get you nowhere.

What is your current routine and what else were you thinking of adding?

I'm hearing so much of a conflict in opinion here... I thought lifting weights with a healthy diet would make you lose weight...

At the moment I'm just doing basic dumbell exercises, with 1 muscle group a day. 3 different exercises @ 15 reps.

Cheers

This is my current dumbwell workout plan.

Monday Leg (5 Sets Of Each)
beginner squats
lunges

Wednesday (Shoulder 3 sets of each at 15 reps)
overhead press
lat raises
front raises

Thursday Arms (3 sets of each at 15 reps)
some form of curl
some form of tricep exercise

Friday Chest (3 sets of 15 reps)
dumbell press (lying on floor)
press ups
dumbell fly (lying on floor)

Saturday Back (3 sets of 15 reps)
dumbell rows
dumbell deadlifts

Why is everyone so against getting an exercise bike...? It'll be the exact same as normal bike and will burn calories and be a good source for cardio exercise. I fail to see why I shouldn't get one.

buy a skipping rope - £2 from ebay (the plastic ones, not leather)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Boxing-Ju...ies_ET&var=&hash=item8e09998050#ht_2206wt_942

that's your cardio sorted.

then buy 4 bands for a weights routine, instead of plowing money into standard weights, plus they are lightweight and small and can be taken with you anywhere.

if you youtube videos on resistance tube/band exercises, you can literally work any muscle in the body, you just need to be creative. wrap it around poles, pillars, etc. or your feet.

total cost of all of the above should be less than £60

save the £90 for a rainy day.

Skipping rope is a great idea. I'll get one of those on order now. How should I be doing it though? Every day? In what sort of routine? Just keep going until I can't go anymore or?

I don't fully understand the 2nd part of the stuff you linked but I will have a proper look into it.

Cheers
