Maybe I carry my weight differently, in any case I was mahooooooosive :p

I've lost 35lbs since christmas. Quite proud of myself tbh, I thought I'd struggle with it but I haven't. I would have lost more but I enjoy going to the pub too much :(

I've lost a stone or more since last November. I started going out running and it was hard work for a while but I found myself eating a lot better because I was exercising. After all, why eat garbage only to have to do more exercise to shift it? Anyway, I'm now about 13 stones and 8 pounds, visibly with more muscle since I started doing some weight training in January too, so I've lost at least a stone in fat and then probably some more considering I've put muscle on.

5 weeks ago I was the fattest I've ever been in my 49 years of life but I am quite a fit person and I've done 8 marathons. My problem is that I have a metabolism rate of 1300 which means if I eat 1300 calories and stay in bed all day I won't add any weight on or lose any. Compare that with the average of 2200 and you can see that I can't eat much. I work with a woman who has a metabolism of 1000  but we all know other people who can eat loads and never put 1lb on.
Anyway, 5 weeks ago my 'fat' trousers were getting tight and I'm known for always wearing shorts while I'm singing but the truth was I couldn't get in them so something had to give.
My diet now consists of bananas, grapes, mackerel, tomatoes, chicken and apples during the working day and a nice sunday dinner when I get home consisting of brussel sprouts, cauliflower, brocolli and a couple of taters.
I also run 3 miles home after work and then do 100 crunches when I get in.

Anyway, I don't do weight, I do what you look like in a mirror.
Believe me I've had experiences of watching weight scales and I'll never do it again and doing exercise and losing weight doesn't always go hand in hand.
If you do anaroebic exercise you're going to build muscle and muscle weighs heavier than fat.
Here is a picture I took today of my belt.
5 weeks ago I was on the top hole and theres an inch between each hole so I've lost just over 5" off my waist.

How did you manage to work out your metabolic rate mate?

and 5 inches off your waist in 5 weeks? that seems crazy.

Well done mate, that's a big achievement. I know what you mean about not doing scales, although I do weigh myself I understand that I can't just use that as an indicator. My BMI for my height (5'11") says I am overweight but obviously that doesn't take your build into account.

BTW, how do you work out your metabolic rate? I'm interested to know what mine is.

The question is, anyone else had any success at weight loss in the past and what their method was.

yep. and weight gain.

if you want to loose weight dont drink lots of beer/cider, run a lot and generally do more cardio

The last couple of weeks ive been going to the gym everyday and duning a run, some other cardio exercise and a swim (then chilling out in the sauna and steemroom)

also eat healthy

ive lost a stone in the last month! Although my weight naturally fluctuates by up to 1/2 a stone a week.

currently weighing in at 17.3 stone, down from 18.5.

Best things i can suggest is to exercise before you have your breakfast, even 10 mins of sit-ups, push ups and skipping really kick starts the metabolism. Ive also sorted my mountain bike out and im using that.

My main problem is, i work 12 hour shifts, often without any breaks. Alternating as well, which means the usual rules of dont eat carbs after a certain etc go right out of the window for me. Instead, i eat by one rule, will i feel guilty for eating this?

I still have the odd bit of naughty food but nowhere near as much as i ised to.

Ive also just finished ready 'The guide to happiness', it says in there that the best way to be happy is to think of your long term happiness, like with losing weight, eating that mars bar now will make you happy now but in an hours time you will be sad about it.

Reading in mens health this month, it states that cardio is not the best form of exercise to lose weight, instead you must vary your exercise for the most benefit.

yeh, its good to mix it up but personally ive watched the pounds drop off me when running and swimming combined with not doing what i did last night and having 6 pints of strongy and a take-away!

I think the trick is to, as you said, mix it up. Don't just go out for a gentle jog, do some HIIT stuff as well as some kind of weights workout. It raises your metabolism and means you are burning calories for longer throughout the day even efter your workout is finished.

Im about 10st 10 now and *think* I look slightly better. Been aiming at 5km a day with other cardio like and 5mins on arm bike thing and 1km row then a 30minute swim.
Ive been managing to do around 7km and even did 8.5 yesterday. then the other stuff

Ive also been doing a few situps at home and some pullups. I just dont want to continue doing pullups, rowing, pressups etc and stop the cardio or ill just get a huge block of muscle on my stomach with a layer of fat on top like I did last year. (just made me look fat, although it was hard)

Meh, very annoyed with my weight as it doesn't seem to change no matter what i do... for about the last year i have been eating a lot healthier and going to the gym 3 times a week... but nothing has changed... constantly stuck between 12.25 and 12.5 stone no matter what i do!

I lost about 9 and a half stone is just under 6 months. i went on to a total food replacement program..
The program i was on is Lipotrim
i would only say its for people who are really overweight who have tried all sorts of "diets" which didnt work, you need lots of willpower to do it.. as its not easy. Your body has to get used to not eating anything at all.. also you have to drink aleast 8ltrs of water aday.. the only other things you can drink is black tea or coffee.. nothing else.
I got down to 13st but when i started eating again i put some weight back on.. now i have started doing more at the gym.. (weights etc..) i have put on about 2 stone so i am now about 15st.. but its not bad since i was nearly 23st this time last year..

Seb.
