Weight Loss.

I have seen a lot bigger people in my gym, mainly in pool area, they dont see to care and dont seem to do much.

The easiest thing I can say is that, completely change what you are eating/drinking now and what you could be doing when chilling out. It worked for me, it takes a while to get the mentality right but once you do will want to actually see your body change, you can only do this by taking pics, every 3 weeks I do, also seeing people you have not seen for a while brings a lot of praise.

With me it was I need to change my lifestyle first not the way I look, from eating/thinking/moving.

Ever need motivation bookmark this.

I'm just far too self conscious to go to a gym :(

I've got friends that go, so when I get fitter and shed a bit I might consider it.

Dude baseball cap and ipod, walk/jog and get outside.

No need for gym to drop weight mate, can do all exercises to drop weight over a park or field or even your back garden ;)

Come on, man up, not everyone in the gym is built like Arnie :D

There are some huge fatties, skinny little runts who try to show off lifting 8kg DBs and plenty of normal people just getting on with what they are doing. All you need to do is have an idea of what you want, then get on with it, forget about others in the gym.

If people are looking at you in the gym then you are either doing very very well (aka a beast), killing yourself in a proper workout whilst they don't really bother (this is good and motivates you more), or you are doing something very wrong!

It's usually the first or second points. I'm not big or beefy, have a rectangular upper body with lanky arms. I might not be benching 100kg half reps but I'm there putting up the weight each week, keeping good form and destroying myself in my workouts. Looking like you are exhausted and about to flop to the ground gets more looks from people than the big lifters, just because many of those in the gym don't actually seem to have that dedication/motivation. They are just there to pose, and look good :p

Maybe when I've lost a bit and my fitness is a bit better due to me running I'll think about the gym, but not right now :)

Cheers for all the replies guys, really wasn't sure a) what to expect and b) for you all to be so helpful / nice about it all.

I have pretty big legs as it is because of football / biking when I was younger.

Your legs aren't as big as you think they are.

Beleive me when I say training them properly with a decent resistance workout, along with the rest of your body, will be one of the single greatest things you can do to aid your weight loss.

As has been said already 600-800 calories is insanely low.. I think from the pure heat loss from a human being you need to intake more than 1400 calories to stay alive over a period of time.. i'm sure others will have greater insight into what to do instead...

running is hard to get into (not sure i've ever really gotten into it) but is good for your self esteem and should be good for fitness..

since starting American Kickboxing at uni my fitness has increased fantastically (i also notice how fast it decreases over holiday periods)... if you find a good club for any type of activity you should find the motivation to keep up some sort of activity and push yourself at it

diet is also a very key in losing weight, but as i said others can advise..

try leg raises..- i find them very effective for the leg and abdominal area, and far more tiring than situps

20 minutes on an exercise bike.
20 minute run.
10 sit ups.
10 press ups.
20 minutes on a wobbling machine (my mum tells me I should use it and it feels kinda cool :D)

Doing this all twice a day, except for the run. Sounding okay for just getting a bit of fitness back?

On the wobbling machine, are you just stood there or doing any exercises?

Sit ups and pressups, I wouldn't put too much thought into these yet, a full pressup at 130kg is like doing quite a heavy bench press (about 100kg I think), if your body isn't used to that then it can cause injury.

Good work on the bike and run fella! I couldn't run for 20 secs let alone 20 mins lol

You do 10 minutes "sessions" or on the machine my mum got you do.

It says for weight loss low setting > high is to tone and help develop them or something and medium is well a happy balance.

It's weird doing anything while stood on a plate that vibrates really fast, but I do one 10 minute session stood there and then another 10 minutes straight after where I try and do something, either press ups on it (kills me) or these odd shapes you have to make according to the book.

I can bang out 20/30 sit ups easy after doing 10 for a while, exercise bike is still a killer and so is running but I guess the more I do it the easier it should get. Press ups aren't easy.

I'm 6 foot 3 and was 150k +. I'm now around 130k so good luck with your diet mate.

I'm currently on carbs as I've been ill but will be back to no carbs soon, although with going back to kick boxing and MMA I may have to keep carbs in my diet.

I'm a similar size to you at 6ft4/5 and I weigh 130kg. I'm also an big built guy too so people are always amazed when I say I'm over 20st (only just over now though!)

Been dieting and excercising for the past couple of months and have lost a couple of stone, I cycle to work as much as possible and lift a few weights at home too, nothing too serious but enough to break a sweat and gain a small amount of muscle to aid metabolic rate / weight loss.

Press ups really aren't easy for me, I can only manage about 5 full press ups before I fail, then I'll move to pressups from the knees.

I'm keeping at it and am hoping to weigh in the 18st bracket by the August 21st for a holiday, I really don't wanna go into a waterpark at my current weight!

I want to lose quite a bit, but I'm not sure on how much. I figure I'll see how I go say in 1/2/3 months and then see if I can work out a weight I'd like to hit.

People always so I'm not fat or I don't look fat, but it's just because of my big build.

Regarding going to the gym. At first it can seem daunting, that's perfectly normal, but like most things in life the actual thought of doing it is worse than it actually is. I've just started going myself. But for now if you really don't fancy it you could just set yourself a short term aim of "I wanna do X before I hit the gym", whether it be loose a couple of lbs or whatever you like.

Yay, that's me! the Mr Muscle look-a-like with his 8kg dumbbells :D. But you know what, it doesn't matter. Everyone is at different stages and has different goals. No one points and laughs at the tall skinny guy doing weights (well, much), nor at the 20+st dude on the treadmill. If anything you have respect for everyone for actually doing something about their bodies instead of being sat on the couch eating doritos.

You'll get plenty of motivation and great info here if you need it. GL Tummy :).

A lot of very good advice in this thread.

Diet and control of, is the best way to start reducing weight. Increasing activity is a good compliment to it though. Eating smartly, and the right foods will work a lot better than just cutting calories.

When you feel the confidence to do it, having a simple but demanding weights routine will really accelerate fat loss.

Don't worry about weight - you're a naturally broad / big guy. You will have muscle mass and big bones, you will always be heavy. Go by the mirror, and how you look - don't focus on weight.

Remember a "diet" isn't a short term activity, it's a lifestyle change and a way you live your life. :)

Cheers FF.

My diet is probably the one thing that does let me down, I've been eating much better recently (I've not had bread in ages :()

I just need to have more fruit / veg and I'm trying to exercise more because I feel like I've achieved something each day if I do.
