Weird dreams

I've just re-read the whole thread and this really intrigues me.

I remember a dream around ten years ago I was at a large country house with a massive grounds. I remember jumping off the terrace and was able to will myself to float. After a while I tried "swimming" through the air and it worked. It sounds absurb but I was literally doing breast stroke through the air. I don't remember whether or not I was conscious of it being a dream, though? Does this make it a lucid dream or not?

Basically when your having a dream there is a tell tail sign which tells you that its not real. Example being you wake up get out of bed, get ready for work and realise your house is back to front. Then you think erm? This is a dream. That is what you call becoming lucid. Because its a dream you can go ahead and do whatever!

If you choose to float and fly, then i would think that is partly a lucid dream?

It all sounds confusing, if you realise your dreaming you wake up. I cant get my head around that part

no but that's the point... the trick is to stop yourself from waking up when you realise you are dreaming - there are various techniques to do this (rubbing hands together, spinning yourself, etc) but ultimately it takes practice I guess....

Must novices report that they get so excited that they manage to realise they are dreaming that they just wake up lol

Can this not be a really scary experiency tho? I mean thinking your awake not realising your dreaming.

I mean if i pressed submit now, looked back up and the monitor was different, i think i would litrally crap myself.

Other people have said they woke up and realised they have 5 fingers, which was their tell tail sign. Isnt that scary when it happens?

Depends what mood your in I suppose? I was very young, and when you're young you tend to have more nightmares. Especially seeing as I'd watched the Alien trilogy by the time I was 9 or something as well as other films like Predator.

The scariest bit for me was probably not understanding it was a lucid dream. I knew it was a dream though when my lightbulb blew when I switched it on, but no matter what, no matter how scared I was I couldnt pull myself from the dream until it had finished (at which point I ran hysterically crying and slept in my parents bed).

I don't know... I haven't Lucid dreamed yet... I'm just reading / preparing myself at the moment - there's a really cool program called infinity which gives you day by day steps to follow... hopefully within a couple of weeks I'll be on the way :)

I can imagine it would be very scary at first, but you must soon realise that you can't be harmed (most people are invincible in their L-Dreams). It would really freak you out when you suddenly notice somethign strange and know that you are dreaming....

Can't wait to start though!

It is scary.

But it's worth the risk for a good long lucid

I'm gnna risk it tonight, even with my bad past experiences.

Its a feeling out of this world, even if I am genuinely terrified - I'll still wake up in my bed and know I'm safe.

So becoming lucid, you more or less going to experience sleep paralysis? :(

no.

I've had sleep paralysis once.

and that was before I even knew what lucid dreaming was.

The first ever lucid is scary, you don't know what's going on (even if you have been reading about it)

My first one I sorted of floated out of bed and hit the floor, stood up, realised i was dreaming (my tv changed colour) and then my door opened and it was dad and I panicked and then woke up.

Loved it! :D

hehe - yes it is that real, it's as if your awake now, as real as that, but you can do ANYTHING - I still get a HUGE buzz out of flying, I don't think that'll ever get boring! :D

Don't expect lucids to come easily though, they take time, dedication and effort, but my god its great :)
