Weird sounds at night

why would this super aircraft use the rather poorly performing pulse jet?

the hypersonic testing thats going on isn't currently going to well, and also needs b52 and a giant rocket to launch it to high enough speeds to start the engine and once the engines started aerodynamics at that speed are amazingly complicated and the things spiral out of control and tear apart.

we'll get there eventually but now space plane is a more feasible ultra high speed approach. and even thats far far off.

Well, the USAF want to be operating unmanned strike aircraft at hypersonic speeds in 5 years time and hypersonic surveillance missions in 15 years time. Lockheed Martin have publicly announced a hypersonic (scramjet, not pulse detonation) surveillance and strike aircraft. It's not impossible to think that working prototypes exists.
