Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

Have just got a Nuphy Air96 v2 in Lunar Gray with Wisteria switches. Loving it, typing is do much more fun than on most "gamer" keyboards and I'll no doubt go for a custom non-low profile build one day. Or I'll just buy a blue lagoon Halo:P

For now, this is pretty good out of the box.

So having had a few days with my Monsgeek M1 V5….

Fn key is no longer green, no idea how I did that...

Hilariously just checked store page reviews and one jumped out at me: “Minor deduction, for the FN key, that seems to do whatever it wants. Sometimes it's glowing green all the time, other times it's off. Some actual setting for that or a Note how to configure it would be nice.”

Looks like I’m not the only one then!

Just found this on reddit.

The LED under the FN key shows it's charging (charging indicator) and turns off when fully charged.

I picked up a Nuphy Halo 65 a couple years ago for like £110 (IIRC) which came with all the extras including optional keycaps and wrist wrest and I genuinely love the keyboard so much that I want to buy another one like the Air 65.

Worth every penny, even at full price. I own a Keychron Q2 and just didn't like it nearly as much.

Yes, it's the US layout but that doesn't really bother me. If Nuphy made an ISO UK layout I'd die with happiness.

I now want to get better tactile switches but I'm wary that if I use it in an office environment again, the existing switches (Baby Kangaroo) were already annoying to my co-workers so something noisier will be unacceptable.

I have the same keyboard and use milky yellow pro switched.

Although I prefer the feeling of my Keychain Q1 with the same switches. The key caps at home is much nicer, and sounds better too.

Fair enough. What works for each person I suppose.

Have you tried the Halo with tactile switches?

I have linear switches and can't stand them on any of my keyboards. The Keychron has a fairly high angle for my wrists and really needs a wrist rest to be comfortable (somewhat of a similar issue with the Halo 65 but not as severe I find).

Anyone have experience ordering direct from NuPhy? Really want to pick up an Air 75HE, but I'm a bit weary with the potential inability to deal with any issues should there be any. I'm guessing there's little in the way of warranty support etc? Any chance anyone here already has one? Awful keycaps aside it looks like (nearly) my ideal keyboard. Have wanted to go back to something low profile for work but still be decent for gaming and this looks just the ticket.

Are metal keycaps worth it over the regular? Been thinking of changing keycaps for a while but ive heard mixed things
I've never liked the feel or sound of them - but I know that some people love both of those things about them. Same with ceramic keycaps too.

Switches turned up today, luckily only a few bent pins on some switches but ordered more than I needed just in case. Installed and completely changed the sound profile of the keyboard giving it more of a clacky sound without being overbearing loud, can see why it gets a expensive hobby constantly buying switches to try out, tempted to pick up some Wuque Studio WS Morandi as these seem to have good reviews and a sound profile that I like after listening to some videos.

FR4 is my favourite plate, Although I would love to try polycarbonate because of the deeper sound it would likely give, I think that it's just a bit too flexy for me, I actually prefer a sturdier feel personally but I don't like too high of a pitch in the sound which you get from stiffer plates like copper, brass or aluminum. FR4 Strikes the right balance for me in terms of stiffness and giving that nice sound signature.

The UT4 switches, Oil King switches and the Rainy 75 keeb arrived before Christmas and I'm seriously happy with them. The oil kings are incredible despite not being a fan of linear switches, they increased my WPM, completely dampen sound and feel heavy but buttery smooth. The UT4's are so interesting but taking a while to acclimate, the actuation goes from heavy to light before it registers a key stroke and it's really messing with my head. They feel incredible when really typing fast.

This Rainy 75 is worthy of the hype. I simply cannot believe how incredible it sounds! It came with WOB switches which turn out to sound better than any switch I own but that didn't stop me from swapping the board to UT4 all over with oil kings on WASD and spacebar. Obviously honeymoon period but right now I'm absolutely chuffed.

Thanks again for the suggestions and recommendations mate.

I was very tempted by the Rainy75, but as far as I can tell it's compatible with ISO Enter but doesn't have split left shift :(

I tell you what, the Rainy 75 does feel slightly cramped and I thought it was the half size right shift but it can't be that. Comparing the layout to the GMMK Pro (also 75% size), the GMMK Pro has a big 5mm space between the arrows and home/page keys, when switching between that 75% and a TKL there is zero feeling of cramped typing space.

It only feels a tad cramped so I'm sure I'll get used to it, not like the buttons themselves are in a strange config. It's a giant upgrade from the GMMK Pro in all other regards.

Looks like delivery is in Feb so not too long to wait! (in comparison to waiting almost 2 years for GMK Sumi...)
I genuinely forgot how irritating it is to wait for a keyboard order to arrive so you can get to building.

In the meantime, I've lubed and filmed some Gat Oil Kings in preparation and the OTC 9009 keycaps have also arrived so I'm good to go!
