Well, I picked the GSi up...

the revs at certain speeds are also higher which leads me to believe that its not a 220 box at all.

That's pretty impressive - looks like you've scored yourself quite a bargain Andy! What box do you reckon it is in there?

Are you sure it's not just that the white one isn't running on top form?

Lets not get too carried away here.

Both me and Sock drive coupe Turbos, and there not exactly supersonic. Quick, but not new trouser territory.

I cant imagine the NASP to be as fast as your making it out to be...

10 Sec 0-60 ? The coupe T would manage it in nearly half the time!

I dont mean to be a tool here, but a T16 NASP is NOT rapid in the slightest.

.

0-60 in 8.3 apparently and his has a different box so is supposedly faster so dunno.

So far the only evidence to suggest it has a magic gearbox is the fact it 'revs higher' than another 220. Could easily be that one of them has an issue.

You need to find out agw, becuase if it has an uprated gearbox it'll need declaring as a modification.

Do you know whats required to get from 0-60 in 5 seconds? My Evo 8 has active differentials, four wheel drive, sophisticated traction control and 360bhp - that only just makes it in 5 seconds :D

Are you seriously saying that accelerating in the outside lane of the Motorway in a Rover 220, a 2 litre 4 cylinder, reminded you of the time your boss did the same thing in his brand new 4.4 litre V8 powered BMW?

Please, tell me you are not?
it's the guys first car with more than shopping trolley levels of power.
let him over-egg the pudding for now rather than character assasinate him.

I didn't mean that it felt as quick as it... I just meant I remembered the feeling of passing cars very quickly. Similar to if I overtook a car doing 30mph.

Anyway, I think a lot of people would be very suprised at the speed my car picks up. It's not a standard gearbox and so the gearing is all close-ratio. I know for a fact that even you Fox, would comment on its acceleration.

If the Ratios are so close, surely it'd be running out of puff at 70+ not accelerating like a 6 series?

I doubt it Nick. It had a HG change recently (leaking oil) and the compression is spot on. Also, when I heard Mike go for it on the motorway, I dropped to 3rd and floored it. I kept with him but didn't gain on him much/if at all.

Fox, even my dad said that the car revving at 3500rpm in 5th gear at 70 isn't right. I agree with him. 4000rpm @ 80 seems to high to me. In the 214 70 used to be at 3000rpm and 80 at 3500rpm, same as in Mike's Rover.

Also, you've got to be joking about declaring the gearbox as a mod. I'm guessing you even declared your mobile phone holder to the insurers as a mod :p

rcrossco_1, I don't know what the hell you're talking about, but a few points...

0-60 in 10 seconds was the 214. The 220 would probably do it in about 8.

The Coupe/GSi Turbo's are very quick in standard form. I really can't see how you can say that 6 seconds to 60 isn't?

Have you ever driven a T16 NASP? I'm very intrigued to find out what gearbox mine has, because it's not standard.

I said NEARLY half the time!

Its got all that and its only 1 sec faster than a coupe eh?!

While I appreciate your nice comments, I do have to add that even another 220 driver (rover220) said numerous times that my car is much quicker off the line than his.

Not adding fuel to the gearbox fire but at 70 in 5th my coupe is doing 3400, my 214 was exactly the same. No clutch problems in the other 220?

it may well be,i merely meant that if you're not allowed to wax lyrical only a few days after buying a new toy, then when can you?

Rover Coupe VVC BHP 143 0-60 7.8
Rover Coupe NASP BHP 137 0-60 8.2
Rover Coupe 1.6 BHP 109 0-60 9.5

you forgot to mention that at that end of the performance envelope,"only" a second is a lifetime.
