Wetherspoon general discussion.

My friend's son is one of the managers at the nearest one to me - William Wygston (aka Willy Wig to the locals) and as he still lives with friend and husband, since retirement has been to many when they have a few days break. They get 20% discount on all food, drink plus the odd hotel stay.

Went to one in Nottingham last week at lunchtime with a colleague and had a Burger and soft drink, was fine for the cost and cheaper than a McDonalds so was happy enough with the quality\cost

I enjoy the eclectic mix of people you find in Spoons, have had many enlightening conversations. People of all ages and walks of life enjoying a pint and a conversation, without music getting in the way.

Although the one in Paignton was a little edgy.

Had a bizarre experiences in a Wetherspoons in Manchester some years back. One minute I'm having a quiet beer with a couple of mates, the next a load of guys wearing England shirts are stood up giving Nazi salutes and chanting "No Surrender to the IRA". As I recall we decided to move on sharpish.

Very bizarre.

Yeah thats never happened in any ive ever been in.

I guess though middle of a large city that could happen anywhere, I mean never say never, but in the few different Wetherspoons I go to, I would say something like that would be unlikely.

I used to think old male drunks were Wetherspoon customers and now I know different after being in at least 200 different Wetherspoons.
Only seen trouble in one this year in Bournemouth where two Cops were escorting a bloke out, no noise though.

Our usual used to the the Harry clasper in whickham, very comfortable, spoons prices and the food wasn't half bad.

The one in the metrocentre the last couple of times I've been vv busy and they apparantly.cant cook food properly.

The electrical wizard in .Morpeth the the bull in bedlington were both decent last time I was in.

The price for some scran and. A pint of leffe was phenomenal, however they've changed to the UK brewed leffe identifiable by the abv of 6.0 and it's absolutely terrible

We popped in one a few years ago when we got off the train from London (might have been the Mile Castle) and it was pretty decent, not sure if the same during the night though...

being a frequent visitor to Wetherspoons especially on holiday I generally find them good, Good price and decent quality, I have also been in some not so good but I would say that the bad ones are few and far between

Had the Spoons roast turkey dinner today, £13 with a beer.

Turkey, mash, 2 stuffing balls, pigs in blankets and peas and some kind of parsnip I think.

Mash was pretty dire, rest wasn't too bad to be fair.

Can't believe the largest Spoons in the country hasn't had a mention! Capacity for 1500 people, its a Grade II listed building built in 1903, I remember it as casino, amusement arcade, and a night club (Peggy Sues) from my much younger years, and now its known as The Royal Victoria Pavilion which opened after they restored the almost derelict building in 2017

It has a huge outdoor terrace, and the beer garden is the beach. Its also recently closed for a month whilst they did £750,000 worth of upgrades, I now believe the mezzanine level goes all the way around, and they fitted new carpets.

Been a while since I've been there, but my daughter goes pretty regularly. We'll happily use Spoons for lunch or dinner, been to the Fox on the Hill in London quite a few times, as its convenient place for lunch when we have to visit the hospital.

First real day out after COVID was a visit to the tunnels along from there.
I suggested popping into that Spoons, but the OH turned her nose up and we ended up in The Little Ships on her say so and as she was paying I wasn't complaining :D (which I see is now permanently closed)

In other Wetherspoons news, we popped into the Ledger Building in Canary Warf on a Saturday night and the place was heaving, which a mix of age groups and the like, but you could hear yourself talk.
