I installed Tampermonkey and the script but I still can't visit Tweaktown without the message popping up, am I doing it wrong?

I'm using Chrome and ABP

The cookie notifications annoy me as well. The most pointless piece of legislation I can think of.

I think it's a good idea.

There are still many people who don't know how extensively they are tracked online. Some of them might care. I think an informed choice is important.

They only appear once on a site and they only require one click to make them go away. They're nothing like adverts.

Ad breaks in the middle of youtube vids, that's just taking the pee!

Not if it's done well. I've been watching Lindybeige's videos for a couple of years, ever since I saw a video he made about the use of fire for lighting in films set in medieval Europe (or fantasy worlds with the same level of technology) embedded somewhere. Probably the video thread here. A while back, he got a some sponsors and started doing ads for them in the middle of his vids. A brief mention early in the video and a full ad around the middle of the video. It works just fine for three reasons. Firstly, the ads are clearly defined as ads. Secondly, the ads are in the same style as the videos and done by the same person. Thirdly, the ads are relevant to the video (he advertises online learning and entertainment companies).

Criminal? Really? Being a tad dramatic there I think.

You don't HAVE to use the website after all.

Ok maybe not the best word to use as it wasn't meant in the literal sense, guilty is probably a better word to use.

I just use uBlock Origin and I've never had issues with "We've noticed you've been using an adblocker" etc since switching from adblocker

so, spent this afternoon digitalising my german notes, and was using google translate as a quick spelling checker/verb ending checker.

before i closed it i noted adblock+ listed 4000+ blocked ads.

and the industry wonders why we use adblock? how much data would that have been on a metered connection?

Does the same here when I'm watching BBC iPlayer. I didn't think the BBC had adverts, but the uBlock counter just keeps on rising the longer I watch.

Network ad block at the DNS level. Literally the best money I've ever spent on networking gear :)

Worth pointing out I have only been on OcUK hence the low numbers but it's not uncommon for roughly 15% of net traffic to be ads. It has made browsing so much faster

As a web designer/developer I ****ing hate the state of advertising on mobiles.

Full screen takeover ads, ads with barely distinguishable close buttons, ads that nearly kill the browser because they are doing god knows what.

30 second youtube adverts and the likes trigger the hell out of me.

From what I understood HTML5 pretty much makes Adblocking far less effective on things like Twitch as well. I at least turned HTML5 off and I don't get any adds on that platform, with it on Adblock probably works 1/4 of the time it should.

Any recommendations for an ad blocker for Android?

Pretty sure you have to be rooted still to get this working as android won't let you mess with the web traffic. Root gives you (or the add blocker) access to the hosts file so you can push advert hosts to a black hole.
