Bit of a rant really about how much of a moron one of my mates is, he really can be a decent bloke, but sometimes you just wanna hit him.

basically last night, myself, Ryan and Barry were meant to be going out to a few pubs clubs and generally having a good night out. I was told to leave my car behind as we would be getting a lift into where we were going and be getting a taxi home.

I arrive at Ryans at the agreed time, to see Barry's car on the drive. Was a bit concerend as he was meant to be meeting us in Truro. Anyway Ryan lets me in and says that we are running late as we are waiting for Nigel to come and fix Barry's car, Barry was going to take us into Truro, fine I think. Basically the fan belt on his car had snaped which meant he could turn the alternater whichmeans the battery would go flat. Anyway we wait ages for Nigel to turn up, wh eventually after some chasing he does. As you can imagine at 9pm at night it's hardly the right time to be repairing cars, but Barry being Barry loves his car (It's a 306 GTI 6 in quite shocking condition, it's had 3 engines already) Nigel can't do it because the fan belt Barry got was wrong, too long or something.

So to get Barry home, Ryan lends him his battery out of his own 306 GTI 6, to which I would bring it back to him after work today. We got Barry's car running and instead of going home, he went out, had lots to drink, drove home and wrote his car off, leaving Ryan with a car he can't use, he's got family FFS and can;t be without his car, so where is the battery ? In the police impound in Barry's car. Basically I work with Barry and he's known to be a bit of a boy racer. Well he is a boy racer.

Anyway my point I guess is that you try and help someone and literally bend over backwards and see what the silly runt went and did ? Never again thats for sure.

What annoys me is I offered to take Barry home in my car, he's even a member of the RAC, which was even more annoying as he could have called them out and had them sort it.

From what I understand his car is a write off, he went down the A30, a tyre burst and he ended up in the central reservation, he spent the night in the police cells and didn'tcome to work today. If he over the limit and I'm sure he was he's almost certainly lost his licsence ??

Anyway not really best pleased with him at the moment, glad he's not hurt or anything but just annoyed that he's caused another mate serious problems.

Anyway rant over.

Drinking and driving wrecks lives. He's lucky he didn't hurt someone (or himself) really.

There really is no excuse for drink driving, or not (at least) trying to stop a drink driver using their car/1.5 ton weapon. :(

He'll lose his license for sure if he was over the limit... seeing as one pint of stella is 3 units, I'm sure he will be, especially if he had a few....

next time, use a pair of tights for a quick fan belt replacement!

Oh, and smack your mate in the head for being a complete and utter retard!

I don't know if he will lose his licence. Possibly a lengthy ban.

(shifted to motors for you, its likely you'll get better responses in here)

I intend to smack him hard when I see him, and make him cough up for a new car battery for Ryan.

I've got a feeling he'll lose his job also as he lives miles away from where he works, he can only get there by car. Oh and he's got 3 points on his licsence already.

Oh and thanks Gilly :)

I will never understand how people seemingly write off their cars all the time when drink driving. I know of people who have driven under the influence on occasions, sadly i will admit to having done it in the past myself for very short distances, and every time for every person they have driven very carefully and stuck to pretty much all the limits. Infact they have probably been safer than they are normally when pratting about.

Obviously its a very bad thing to do, but for gods sake you would have thought if someone was drunk then they would drive carefully and not risk even more than they have already chosen to.

I can't imagine driving on the road knowingly over the limit.

I had to move my car on a driveway once (enormous thing, hundreds of yards to the road, I know it's still illegal but the risk was miniscule) to allow someone out, after three or four pints, and turning the ignition on felt incredibly wrong.

Spoken like a true idiot... sorry drink driver

3 pints shoul be okay as long as its long enough (about 3hrs from first drink, depending on person)

If things go really wrong and he ends up in front of a magistrate they could even impose a prison sentence.(If he caught them on a bad day or there was a lot of damage to public property).

Is your argument that you dont think its true that they could possibly be as safe as when pratting about like an idiot while sober, or did you just decide to post purely to try and gain some ocuk kudos?

My post was genuine, you hear about people crashing their cars while under the influence, from my (brief) experience of driving while i shouldnt be, it has got to be pretty hard from the way ive/friends have driven.

I suppose its hard to quantify drunk, i've never experienced anyone driving who has been "******", merely a couple of pints over the limit.

No chance. I went to see some old mates yesterday who I hadn't seen in a good while.

We went to the pub and I had one pint. My friends offered to buy me another but I declined. I wouldn't dream of having more than one in a 3 hour period.

It's so easy to say no. There's plenty of time to have another when you get home... or if you lose your licence from drunk driving.

I have trouble as a passenger even thinking about how you can drive when drunk. There is no excuse for drink driving, OCuk kudos? LOL-Do I really seem like that? I write stuff I believe, one of my friends auntie is paralysed due to someone like you

There is no way on earth a drunk bloke driving slow is as safe as someone driving fast. Reactions are the biggest problem with being drunk.
