what about a fiesta st...

sounds like a good deal to me - i really love my wee 1.25 zetec (2000 model) but to get it to move u have to constantly drive it pretty hard so the same car with more power would be nice - i think the ST is definitely the answer!

exactly... thats my reasoning with my dad. my MPG is POO simply because i generally drive "flat out" to be able to move anywhere with some kind of progress. Having driving a ST alittle i found that even a tap on the throttle gets it going more than flat out in my 1.2 does... so surely i *might* use less petrol cos i wont need to drive as hard?!? lol ;)

Check out the Corsa VXR too, meant to be pretty cheap to run and a a hell of a lot quicker than the ST

most 2nd hand ST's can be had for 7-9k (unless they are really new examples) but a corsa VXR is only like a year old so still costs like £13k almost double the ST....

That's kind of obvious though mate, if you don't mind me saying. The Corsa VXR is a newer car. The ST was '05 when it was released and the Corsa VXR was like what, last year. Kind of a 2 year gap there. ;)

Exactly the same story here! The wee 1.25 is always on the limit and i just cannot keep petrol in it! Also i just want a new car too as the other one has about 95k miles on it. Corsa seems nice yoke but too pricey. Also I'd maybe prefer ford over vauxhall having driven a 1.2 corsa before the fiesta

If you're happy doing the mileage in a fiesta at the moment, then an ST would be a good step up in terms of power and fun over the 1.25.

I've got one and its not a 'hot' hatch but its a much better built car compared to a clio!

its a "warm hatch" as some people put it.

gona do a few mods on mine to get the BHP in the 170s but to get more than that its expensive territory

personally having owned both a focus st170 and a clio 182, i cannot honestly say either were better than the other in terms of build quality and i would imagine this would also reflect on the fiesta.

focus ST170 is the "old" mk1 ford style though which is the same for like mk3, 4 and 5 fiestas.

Mk6 fiesta and Mk2 Focus are the same league inside.

I just dont like renaults... lol

thanks a lot for the feedback guys - sounds like nobody has anything really bad to say about the ST so that is good! Im sure the renault is good car too but as some others have said I just don't like them. Diesels are too expensive and hard to get ones here in NI with low enough mileage. Will keep an eye on this thread and post back if I make any purchases!

Build quality? my st squeaks and rattles like crazy. I got ford to fix my seat catches rattling against the seat and it now seems to have developed a new rattle from some unknown place and also it now sounds like I have two peices of polystyrene rubbing together at the rear offside.
I do love it tho :)
You can get up to about 180hp~ for about £1,300. I also think they do need lowering as on the standard springs they look far too high.

Not a mission id have a mini or a swift though!

The verdict says :

"The Fiesta is faster and has better steering and handling, but thanks to its more modern interior, value price and generous kit, the Swift sneaks ahead to take second spot."

That will do nicely for me! Interior doesn't matter anywhere near as much as handling etc etc

make sure its had the clutch "fix" that early ST's needed. (part of warranty)

ill also update if i get one :)

bumping thread...

... I was looking at a 05 Fiesta ST for 7k private, id got HPI sorted out, i had a look around it, and i was just getting ready to go for test drive and setting date on picking it up.

Friday i decided to goto my Local Fords to ask them about getting a engine fault light checked out... Only i ventured onto the SALES side by mistake (yeah yeah), and not the maintenance side... A quick 20minute visit turned into a 3hour session with a Sales man. I got a Test drive in a top range 07 Fiesta ST with all the extras and only 4000miles on clock.

This car he priced as 7k plus my car (3k roughly, 2003 1.25 Fiesta) a bit out of my league. Plus it had blacked out rear windows which i don't like. So then he shows me the next one... 6.5k plus my Car, same color, half leather seats, normal windows, no overtop stripes and 8000miles...:o

Guess who put the Sold Sticker on it

And to think i said to my mates id NEVER buy from a dealer again :p

Pick up thurs... Will get some Hovis

Congrats, but are you sure you didn't rush into this at all? Dealers are absolute masters of roping people in. Out of interest, why you didn't choose to get a car with a few more miles on (say around 25-30k) or a year or two older?

ie. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/368132.htm

1 year older, 18,000 miles more - total saving of £2300

thats what i originally was doing (as i said in my post), a 24000mile ST for 7k. 3k for my car, and 4k cash.

ive spent £2500 more than i had wanted (6.5k + my Car), but this is in miles better nick, has only 8000miles, has 2 miles warrently left etc.

yeah maybe i rushed in a bit, and as i said i never wanted to get from a dealer cos they rip you off, but some how it just happend. I might have been roped in, but im happy lol.

Nice car! Now get some stripes on it :D

Also, don't know if you go on the ST owners club website but they have a meet every Sunday at the Halfway house on the A127.

Im stuck with what car to get next, i only passed recently but i want to get saving now, my choice was an old MG ZR, a Fiesta ST or a Clio 182. Hard choice, i prefer the solid interior of the clio, but my mate has one in the colour i want. MG ZR is nice looking but shabby inside unless you find a rare one with leather.

its all down to personal preference however atm i think i would go CLIO because its different to my mates and its faster.

edit.. i was just wondering , does lowering suspension add to insurance premiums?

yeah im on fiestaSTOC, only posted 2 times though. Same as Ukfiestanetwork (thats going downhill though).

my mate used to goto meets but some reason hes been turned off them, i dunno why. I might try and get him down there again, get him out the house because his paranoid about outside... (guess the drug.. lol) should be going fiesta in the park tho :)

Aint putting Over The Top stripes on, i think they Over The Top (pardon the pun), side stripes are staying on for now.

Just stripped my old fiesta of its speakers and HU and put standard back in, but the stereo code i have in the manual is wrong!!!!
