What are the currant differences between Nvidia and AMD graphics cards

If it were my money then i would go with the 280x, its just a 7970 but its a solid performer and well proven, higher up the chain and the choice becomes more difficult but thats a whole different kettle of ball games.
Adaptive Vsync is awesome on Nvidia
Amd needs a third party tool to get the same
Yet it still works on both? It's hardly like one's a pro and the other's a con, it's still something that works on both.
I dont see my 780 at £380 with 3 games more money, i also do not see any 290 non x cards at the same performance level or higher than my particular card.

They're both faster than 780s, cheaper, with more memory and more memory bandwidth, and seemingly are just as fast as 290X cards, and £50 cheaper than your 780, and they have games also. So no you weren't correcting me.

However, it's irrelevant when they both work without any fuss, as there are plenty of reasons to run Radeon Pro outside of adaptive v-sync anyway.

benchmark threads show a different story, I am glad I paid £50 more for a better performing card.

Good for you, shame there are no more of those cards around to flash, I actually sold some old stuff lying around which normally i would throw away so for me the upgrade was a no brainer.
The end result being, you got a good deal and are happy, i got a good deal and i am happy.

Yes you got a good deal, I got a better deal though with a gpu and ssd.
'bumped'-scots slang=paid over the odds(In my view between our comparative performance/games/total tech purchased for the same monies) was simply tongue in cheek.
But as long as we're both happy that is the main thing.
AMD released X amount of 290's that were full fat 290X, they used a 290 bios and sold them as 290's, word gets out on what models are likely to be 'unlockable' and when you get one, you **** yourself laughing watching others pay way over the odds for slower/lesser specced gpus.
AMD did it with the 6950 too, yes I bought two of those as well, £380 got me 6970 CrossFire that kicked the utter **** out of the 580 that cost anything between £435-£485.
Tommy purchases wisely or not at all, fps BBFB EVERY time.

How do I find out which models can be upgraded ?
would it be dangerous changing the bios and would it void the warranty ?
