Which you could do if you were in your country's airspace or international airspace. Flying a bomber into foreign airspace might get you a little welcoming party.

I think it is standard procedure that any unknown aircraft or foreign aircraft within a certain range of a US Navy carrier strike group gets checked out. The US uses its carrier strike groups to project its military power around the world. So they are quite valuable. Understandable then that anyone getting a bit close will be asked to shove off by some fighter jets.

You can't factor in Nuclear power into which of us is more powerful. Whether or not people want to debate whether Russia's nukes are any good at hitting their targets, nukes mean M.A.D, so its a bit pointless to compare, IMO.

- Their power 50 years ago is irrelevant. They just don't have a good offensive force in today's modern wars.

- Only because of ROE, the USA could quite easily flatten both countries. And at times when a country is really under threat, ROE goes out the window.
I will also add that the Russians got beat in Afghanistan. It's very hard to fight a war where the enemy portray themselves as civilians and use attack and run tactics.

Their equipment or skill had little to do with it, it was sheer numbers.

We and the U.S don't hide behind religous buildings, women and children and use dirty tactics, hiding IED's that will harm our own countries civilians just to take out the "enemy".

ROE, if there was none, there would be no Iraq left, they would have been flattened.

Also "we" don't dress like the general population, i'm sure if everyone wore BDU's including the enemy, in the same matching attire, it'd be harder.

Man, next time... think about what they are facing and the advantages they have.

You are suggesting that high tech equipment is irrelevant. And that the Russians could beat us with their inferior weapons like the 'insurgents' do in Iraq.

We are saying, they do damage because of the Rules O Engagement. We could quite easily bomb the entire country, but because of the ROE we are only allowed to target people with guns. The reason why the 'insurgents' create damage is purely because of cheap tactics. But this damage is only minor anyway. We have the offensive power to take the fight to other countries. They have only minor defensive power to cause small loses.
