Im looking for some good strategy games to play but i've not played anything new for years, last ones were like AOE, RA2, ST Armada and a few others, i did try generals but didn't really like it.

So what good ones have come out in recent years?

Rise and Fall: Civilizations at war(really look into this one coz its great)
Medieval Total war 2(soon to be released)
Age of Empires 3(I was a bit disappointed with it really)

Thanks, just looking up on some of these now, what sort of present and more futuristic strategy's are out or coming out to look for as i enjoy these as much if not more than the older style of game play?

I was going to get AOE3 before but never got around to ordering, so is it not as good as was hoped for then?

Rise of Legends

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War + Winter Assault Expansion + Dark Crusade expansion out later this year.

I only play the above two with the latter including the most recent expansions. Really looking forward to Dark Crusade.

Its good. The graphics are nice.
But the game play is still a lot like AOE2
And the story mode has a crap story to it and i finnished it in 2 or 3 days and i didnt even cheat or lose once.

I think they justed hyped it up too much and i was let down :(

Warcraft 3 :D

Most real RTSers hate it for some reason, i dont play it for the strategy that C&C Generals comes with (Also good btw), but because its just so cool

I liked Act of war, it was one of the few games i could be bothered to complete infact :) It did annoy me the fact that you couldn't zoom out very far, so you could never really get a sense of the full battlefield...

Didn't like Star Wars: Empire At War very much, both the ground and space missions were pretty lame, and the overall stratagy bit was carp aswell.

I didn't think Dawn of war was all that good to be honest. I completed it, but can't see what all the fuss was about. It was pretty easy, and I hated the storyline\cutscenes, they were just so boring & nerdy!!!!

Civ4 is pretty brilliant, but I only really play it over a LAN with my brother, playing online games over the years has pretty much turned me off any single player game at all, I just dont see the point! You do need a couple of days free to start a Civ4-athon tho :D

Galactic Civillisations 2 is supposed to be pretty brilliant aswell, although i've not got round to playing it. If it is 1/2 as good as MOO2 or Ascendancy it will be great!

I've had a good look around and its hard to decide, i want to order one soon but im still unsure what to get, im thinking of just getting Age of Empires 3 even with the disappointment shown from Zip, i will try some demos of most of them first though.

After looking at Supreme Commander yesterday i have to say it looks pretty sweet, its one i will definitely be keeping an eye on when its out next year, i was hoping for a good futuristic strategy for years and it looks like this should be a good one, recommend you all check it out if you like that type.

Even with my disapointment there are some memorable moments.
Like the time i had 10 pick axe miners (you only get them for one level) hacking down some ice bridges to block the road for a HUGE!!!!!!(I mean gigantic) Cannon to send them all flying far far away frim one cannonball :p

lots to comment on here... dawn of war, has definately gotten itself a rep i dont think it deserves, its fun i will give it that... but in the end of the day my army comprises of standard tactical marines, no scouts, no assault troops, no termies... when ** basic unit is so allround amazing all other unit troops seem a bit unnecessary

galactic civilisations is just civ4 in space .... not saying thats a bad thing though :)

although i got a handfull of missions in, the main badguys appear and are like 10x stronger than me (im not lying here they literally are 10 times stronger than your units) which seemed a tad unfair to say the least

i like warcraft 3 :D Its a cool game, plenty of tactical elements... ** heroes add a lot to the personality of your army and with the limited resources on every map you are forced to play aggressive to have any chance of winning
