What are you 3770k owners upgrading to?

3770, going to either 2700X or 8700K, just waiting for benchmarks and final pricing.

Got my DDR4 purchased on a great deal, so just waiting until Zen+ comes out.

I assume this is 1080p?

The increase isn't worth it for my use case and as much as I have the itch to upgrade I have to be sensible.

Also spending so much to get 16GB DDR4 when l was able to purchase 16GB DDR3 for under £50 would really sting.

No 1440p at highest settings.
But I bought my RAM when prices were lower. In your shoes, I would be looking at the total upgrade price to either platform.

Hard to justify a £500+ upgrade when I'm not struggling in any games @1440p 60hz, I'd rather spend that on a high refresh G-Sync.

spend your time and energy playing your favourite game(s) and when they start to struggle then look at the hardware options.

I upgraded from a 2600K to a 5820K which isn't your current chip but close but this was before the 8700K and Ryzen so isn't relevant to your question so I don't know why I told you or why I continue to write this really long sentence about my reasoning when I should just bring it to a long overdue conclusion.

Kind of wish I'd upgraded to the 5820K awhile back - I have no intention of upgrading to 6/12 now though from 4/8 - if I spend money it has to be at least 8/16.

Mine is running at 4.5Ghz, and mostly I'm just getting the itch. There are a few games limited by single core performance (Grim Dawn) that bug me, but in general I'm gpu limited. My system is reasonably balanced with a 980ti, 16GB RAM, SSD etc alongside the 3770k.

I would also like some of the newer chipset features (M.2 drives etc) that my board is lacking, so that's another reason. I quite like the idea of having lots of pcie storage so AMD's additional lanes appeal to me.

I have a wedding coming up so I'm skint until next year anyway, by which point Zen2 and whatever Intel have planned will be arriving. Hopefully another year of AMD keeping Intel on their toes.

Thinking back when I had a [email protected] and upgraded to a [email protected] and to my current 6700k. I could have got away with just upgrading the graphics card as I play at 3440x1440 and maybe get a 2700k second hand if I wanted to upgrade the CPU.
Definitely learnt at last to upgrade when my games don't perform how I want and not getting excited by new expensive tech with 5% increase in performance.

No doubt there will be a nice jump for the Ryzen 2 but I think the main target for the upper ranged Sandy/Ivy Bridge gamers will be in 2019.
We get Ryzen 7nm vs Intel’s Ice Lake on 10nm and hopefully cheaper GFX cards and DDR4 ram prices :D

We can only dream :p

I've Just upgraded a 3770k machine to an I5 8600k machine and did some before and after benchmarks.

rest of the spec the same:

3930k and 290x here. My son plays a lot of games on it and honestly it's still astonishingly good. I can't see a need to upgrade in the near future. Perhaps the GPU could be upgraded (not at current prices) but the CPU was superb value.

Do you feel it was a really worthwhile upgrade?

I've had my 2500k for 7 seven years, it bewilders me how long my CPU/Mobo/Mem has lasted me and it's still playing modern games pretty well paired with a 980TI.

I was so close to hitting buy on an 8700/mobo/ram @ nearly £550 and then I just sat down and really thought, is my current system giving me enough atm? And aside from the 8GB ram it still does the job pretty well, so instead I grabbed 16GB ddr3 ram upgrade to see me through another year, tbh I feel really nostalgic about my system, it's been with me so long now and I don't really want to let it ago unless I have to.

I've the same cpu. As good a chip as my old q9550 cpu. The 3930k is a beast still for gaming.
