What are you 3770k owners upgrading to?

I recently went from a 3770 (non k version) to an i7 7820X. Definitely wanted more than four cores with hyper threading and preferably at least 8 and whilst looking at thread rippers a great intel deal came up. Gone from a 970 to 1080Ti at the same time :) CPU benches are 534 single thread and 4800 16 threads.

As title really. Those of us on the older gen i7s are in an interesting position where the 8700k offers a significant single and multi thread upgrade, but with zen+ looking like it'll also offer a boost on single threaded performance (Ryzen 1 wasn't much of an upgrade on single threaded/gaming once overclocks were taken into account).

So are you guys nursing your older i7 chips along until Zen2 or have you all already jumped on the 8700k?

Waiting until Zen2 and Ice Lake. Both 2019.

As I have to change everything - memory, mobo, cooler and cpu, I might as well wait until something comes along that will last me as long as this 3770k has. :)

I was just wondering how many are still using a 3770k, then I found this thread :)

I've rebuilt and upgraded most of my rig so many times now. Changed ram, gpu 3 times and built 3 different custom loops. The only parts I haven't felt the need to change is my 3770k and motherboard. It's been overclocked to 5ghz for all of its life, and with 32gb 2400mhz ram and a now a GTX1080, its still doing way more than I need it to.

I have toyed with the idea of changing to something else for a while, but I just can't find any realistic real world need to do so.

Such an epic chip :)

I'm toying with buying a used 3770k if I can find one under £100 then just waiting for Intel to release some kind of 8c/16t DDR5 in 2020, I hate looking at DDR4 pricing. Biggest problem now is gaming and having other stuff open, BF 1 runs fairly poorly but 4 extra threads would fix that IMO.

Still rocking the 3770k.

Perhaps not as efficiant as the current models but at 4.5ghz there isnt much it doesnt do with ease, cant see me having to change anytme soon. My aging 670's though? yeah hoping they will be gone once theres a fresh release

As far as gaming goes, especially 1440p+ nothing is really worth upgrading to. If you’re at 8GB RAM, get some more, upgrade GPU. Wait until it’s worthwhile, I’m getting the itch but I’m being sensible.
Same here. I'm waiting for the 4k 144Hz IPS 32" G-Sync beast mode monitors to arrive and be awesome without any OC issues, then it might be time to upgrade, starting with a 1170ish card, once the prices become not-silly. I like removing noise from my PC each upgrade so looking forward to some no-fan-at-idle technology which has been around ages!

4k 144hz gaming on single card is years away. Be lucky to do constant 60fps on upcoming games maxed out with next xx70 card as it very likely will be similar gap to current Ti performance as per 1070 vs 980ti and 970 vs 780ti. xx80ti if there is one would be the minimum to make it worthwhile. Unless gbp rates increase, expect £750+ for third party.

Yup indeed, I'd have a play with 1080 scaling and the like, I should be able to have options with gsync though. I remember the same thing happening with the jump to 1920x1080 ! But anyway I'm happy with my current 3570K, i would get an i7 next but no plans to upgrade until some game makes it worth me doing it.

If you're on a budget and don't want a full upgrade, it's worth going 3770k and clocking to 4.3-4.5 depending on your cooling. Doesn't cost much if you sell your chip.

Still rocking my 3770k as well. I've dialed it down to 4.4GHz rather than 4.5 since I was able to lower the voltage further.
Also bought a used Fury X to tide me over. The next time I'll upgrade it'll be a whole new setup in a few years time.

My 3770K runs beautifully at 4.5GHz. The new Ryzen 2700X looks impressive - not sure if I'll upgrade yet either though.

My 3770K will be 6 years old this summer!
